Island Nature Trust is Prince Edward Island's oldest private charitable land trust, protecting natural lands and waters for wildlife and people in perpetuity.

We are a membership-based organization directed by a volunteer board and supported by a small contingent of dedicated staff. There is currently an opportunity to join our team as a Digital Content Specialist.


About the Position


We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Digital Content Specialist with strong graphic design skills and social media specialization.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Digital Content Specialist will be responsible for developing engaging and visually appealing digital content across various platforms, with a particular emphasis on social media, to raise awareness and support our conservation initiatives.


Responsibilities & Duties

  • Design, capture and produce visually appealing digital content, including graphics, images, videos, and infographics for various digital platforms, with a focus on social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Write, review, edit, and update content for social media, company website, marketing materials, and press releases.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop and implement digital content strategies that align with the organization's goals and target audience, specifically tailored for social media platforms.
  • Create compelling and informative visual assets that effectively communicate complex scientific and environmental concepts to a diverse audience on social media.
  • Ensure all digital content adheres to brand guidelines, maintaining a consistent and professional visual identity on social media platforms.
  • Stay up to date with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies specific to social media, leveraging new features and functionalities to enhance engagement and reach.
  • Optimize graphics and images for web and mobile platforms, ensuring optimal loading times and user experience on social media.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including researchers, scientists, and field staff, to gather information and develop content that accurately represents the organization's conservation initiatives on social media.
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of digital content on social media platforms using relevant analytics tools, making datadriven decisions to improve engagement, reach, and social media strategy.
  • Provide social media expertise, including creating and managing social media calendars, scheduling posts, and engaging with the online community to drive conversation and audience growth.
  • Assist in the management and organization of digital assets, including photos, videos, and other multimedia content, specifically curated for social media.
  • Support in other marketing and communications activities as needed, such as copywriting, editing, and proofreading for social media content.

Requirements:


Education


Required:

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, digital media, communications, or a related field. Qualifications in a relevant field will be considered.


Experience


Required:

Proven experience as a digital content specialist or similar rose, with a strong portfolio showcasing graphic designs kills and social media expertise.


Skills


Required:

Proficient in industry-standard graphic design software, such as Canva Pro, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and other relevant tools.



Required:

Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout composition.

Required:

Strong knowledge of social media platforms and their design requirements, including image dimensions, aspect ratios, and file formats.

Required:

Experience developing and implementing social media strategies and campaigns, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement.

Required:

Experience of using content management systems such as WordPress to design and maintain the Trust's website and it's landing pages.



Required:

Excellent visual communication skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into visually engaging content for social media.

Required:

Detail-oriented with a strong sense of organization and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Required:

Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently.

Required:

Willingness to work in the field and conduct site visits for content gathering and photography.

Asset:
Familiarity with environmental and conservation topics is a plus.

Asset:
Knowledge of web design principles, HTML, CSS, and responsive design is a plus.

Asset:
Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for work use.


Terms of Employment


This is a full-time position beginning immediately and ending in October, with the possibility of extension contingent on funding opportunities.

The position is based in Charlottetown, PE loc
