SUMMARY OF DUTIES


The Supervisor will provide leadership, guidance and day to day management of the work and performance of a team of Datacentre Specialist, Database Administrators, Radio Technician, Infrastructure and Network Analysts.

The supervisor will provide recommendations to develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the City's data center services.


GENERAL DUTIES
Responsible for ensuring the efficient utilization of IT resources, by ensuring alignment to business priorities.


Manages and develops the existing monitoring and response metrics to ensure best practices are established for effective problem resolution for a high availability, 24/7.


Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all key functional policies and procedures, for network architecture, data centers, standards, monitoring, and service provision.


Manages and leads the configuration, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of databases and enterprise software to meet the functional objectives of the business.


Provides direction, leadership and day to day management to staff including daily supervision, scheduling, skills development and disciplinary actions including extended after-hours support.

Conducts staff performance reviews, regular coaching, mentoring and counselling, skills development and management of overall performance.


Manages and reviews issues and problem logs relating to server and datacentre operations, prioritizes outstanding issues and develops resolution plan.

Maintains strong communications with IT and business leaders on availability and planned shutdowns.

Executes the role of Customer Relationship Manager and IT liaison as required.


Collaborates with Security Specialist and technical architect on the development and implementation of security policies and procedures (e.g., user log-on and authentication rules, security breach escalation procedures, security auditing procedures and use of firewalls and encryption routines).

Develops and manages capacity and resource plans, assessing network risks and developing risk management strategy and contingency plans.

Monitors budgetary accounts in accordance with established corporate policies and procedures. The Supervisor also manages day to day financial expenditures of running the section.

Collaboratively develops section goals, work plans and objectives by participating in strategic planning sessions.

Acts on behalf of Manager in his/her absence as required.


Researches industry standard best practices for server and datacentre infrastructures, manages the implementation of appropriate security patches and upgrades to server and datacentre technologies in collaboration with the Security Specialist.

Performs industry analysis necessary to determine best practices and define/select processes and tools.

Analyzes and tests server performance and provides server performance statistics and reports; develops strategies for maintaining server infrastructure.


Maintains and analyzes an inventory of assets; identifies opprtunities for corporate and deoartmental efficiencies and improvement and makes recommendations for optimization of asset uses to IT Management Team.


Provides project and/or workstream duration and effort estimates for component design, installation and operation activities to the Project Managers and business owners for current and capital projects of medium complexity.
