University Health Network (UHN) is a research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. Mohammad Mazhab-Jafari lab at Princess Margaret Cancer Center is recruiting a research technical assistant. The research group works in the field of structural biology and protein science. The applicant is expected to be familiar with basic protein biochemistry, expression and purification techniques. These include basic knowledge of 1) AKTA chromatography system, 2) molecular biology techniques such as DNA cloning and SDS-PAGE, and 3) basic protein expression and purification techniques.

The applicant is also expected to assist in laboratory maintenance including preparation of common buffers and reagents and ordering and maintaining supplies.

Finally, the applicant is expected to demonstrate good bookkeeping practices. The ability to work in a team and a collaborative environment is a plus.


Qualifications:


  • At minimum, completion of a Community college diploma or Bachelor's degree in a healthrelated discipline (or equivalent)
  • At minimum, three (3) to six (6) months of related lab work experience
  • Prior experience in Buffer media preparation
  • Familiar with AKTA purification system
  • Familiar with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, agarose gel, and SDS-PAGE
  • Has maintained lab supplies and placing lab orders for consumables and supplies
  • Demonstrable bookkeeping practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization, good computer skills, ability to learn quickly and work independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure with an attention to detail and perform multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Basic math and computational skills are essential to this position.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to learn.
