System Security Administrator

What can I expect to do in this role?: You'll act with integrity to:

  • Assist to establish and maintain framework to provide assurance that information security strategies are aligned with organizational objectives, and that information security policies support the Assembly's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Understand and follow all systems security policies and procedures; to ensure continued availability of the Assembly's data and information systems, and actively reduce adverse impacts on organizational operations.
  • Conduct security validation procedures and periodic system scans for vulnerabilities; analyzes the results and implements fixes.
  • Participate in discussion/presentations on system issues and solutions. Discuss user requirements, design alternatives, and the impact of new technology/systems, and provide progress reporting.

You'll support our collaboration as you:

  • Provide cybersecurity support to meet the needs of MPPs and Legislative Assembly departments.
  • Provide security awareness training, systems administration and networking support.
  • Monitor client feedback, and report major issues/concerns to manager.
  • Participate in the preparation of client communications pertaining to security issues and respond to security incidents as needed.
  • Maintain all levels of the Assembly's malware protection, coordinates installation of malware protection on workstations and servers. Compile, develop, and maintain security response toolkit.
  • Develop and participate in IT security Response Team activities/functions, includes creating response and recovery plans, organizing and training teams. Implement and maintain secure configuration of Assembly servers and workstations. Maintain and monitor security logs (e.g., Security Information and Event Management). Assist in conducting security audits and implements recommendations from audits as required.
  • Design, elaborate and implement processes to detect, identify, and analyze security related events.
  • Consult with equipment and software vendors to maintain knowledge of current developments in the technology industry; while conforming to industry standards and best practices.

How do I qualify?:


You demonstrate excellence through your:


  • 1 to 3 years' equivalent progressive experience in delivering IT systems and security services in a team environment to support organizational goals.
  • Knowledge of services offered by branch and understanding of Legislative environment (i.e., systems and security administration routines, procedures, and service protocols).
  • Full qualification as a Systems Administrator.
  • Proven experience with testing techniques sufficient to ensure integrity and quality of systems deliverables.
  • Sound knowledge and experience working in a systems cybersecurity environment.
  • Problemsolving skills to support clients and analyze client issues/problems.

The Office of the Assembly:
The Office of the Assembly is currently in a flexible workplace pilot program.

The program permits employees in certain positions to work up to a maximum of 2 days per week for some of their regular scheduled hours from a mutually agreed upon location away from the office without compromising the efficiency and effectiveness of the Office of the Assembly business or overall service delivery.

Employees that are able to participate in the program understand and agree that they must be available, when requested, to be onsite as required and, as such, are required to maintain proximity within commuting distance in Ontario from the Assembly's formal place of business at the Legislative Precinct in Toronto, Ontario.
