Description

North Vancouver City Library is seeking an empathetic, inclusive, and experienced Community Access Worker to join our team on a full-time basis (35 hours per week).


Working collaboratively with other library staff and with outreach workers in the community, the incumbent will coordinate and operate twice-weekly indoor drop-in programming in the library, including setting out refreshments, facilitating activities in the space, and providing information and referral services.

Through engagement with individuals using the space, you will identify needs and aspirations then coordinate with library staff, community partners and service providers to respond through referral, programming or service provision.

You will also be involved in sharing your learning with other library staff, evaluating the service, and preparing reports for library leadership and funders.


  • Experience working with individuals who are unsheltered or at risk of homelessness, including those with mental or physical health, financial, substance use, or food insecurity challenges
  • Knowledge of safe working practices
  • Social and cultural awareness
  • Sound knowledge of the resources and services provided by community partners and government agencies for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • Ability to provide information, reader's advisory and customer service at any service point, including the Children's and Welcome desk
  • Ability to prepare reports, track statistics, and monitor a small budget

Qualifications


Completion of Grade 12 plus a certificate or diploma related to social work, child and youth care, psychology, or related social science discipline, plus sound related experience; or a combination of training and experience.


Additional training such as non-violent crisis intervention, first aid, mental health first aid, SafeTalk/ASIST suicide prevention, and Naloxone/Narcan an asset.

$ $36.08/hour (pay grade 16; 2024 rates) + benefits


Schedule:

Sunday - 12:40 - 5 p.m.

Monday - 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday - 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday - 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Thursday - 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
