Full Time Term Opportunity - 2 Year Term:

Make a difference in our city and join our team as the "Keeper of our Books"
The Bookkeeper will perform accounting and internal control functions in accordance with standard policies and procedures.

As a member of bargaining unit Unifor Local 191 and reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, this role:


  • Records financial transactions and prepares bank deposits in an accurate manner
  • Prepares payments to suppliers, agencies and other registered charities; and monitors outstanding cheques
  • Fields inquiries from internal and external stakeholders related to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Prepares bank and general ledger account reconciliations, including analysis where required
  • Tracks capital purchases and maintains amortization schedules
  • Prepares financial reports and performs analysis as needed
  • Assists in preparing monthly financial statements and quarterly forecasts
  • Assists in preparing yearend files and working papers
  • Provide support to the Financial Reporting Manager on an ad hoc basis

Qualifications


You are a detail-oriented team player with a strong customer service focus and an aptitude for working in electronic form.

You are dedicated to making Winnipeg a better place to live, and you possess the following qualifications:


  • Degree or diploma in accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three to five years accounting experience in a computerized environment
  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles and GAAP, and internal control systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including intermediate level skills in Excel
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems; Experience with Dynamics Great Plains considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize and work with competing tasks and deadlines
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Trustworthiness and dependability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to take initiative, learn quickly, and demonstrate resourcefulness
  • Experience with fund accounting or the nonprofit sector considered an asset
