The Vancouver Parks and Recreation Board is a local government organization responsible for managing and maintaining the parks, recreational facilities, and community centers in the city of Vancouver, Canada.

The board's primary objective is to enhance the quality of life for residents by providing accessible and diverse recreational opportunities, preserving natural spaces, and promoting healthy and active lifestyles.


With authority delegated by Vancouver City Council, the Board looks after 250 public parks and beaches, VanDusen Botanical Garden, Bloedel Conservatory and a large public recreation system of community centres, pools, rinks, fitness centres, golf courses, street trees, marinas, sports fields, and playgrounds.


The Board of Parks and Recreation offers a wide range of programs and activities for people of all ages and interests.

This includes sports leagues, fitness classes, arts and cultural programs, outdoor recreation activities, community events, and educational workshops.

The Board is also involved in the planning and development of new parks and recreational facilities to meet the growing needs of Vancouver.

Together with the City of Vancouver, the Board collaborates with First Nations, community groups, stakeholders, and other government agencies to ensure the creation of vibrant and sustainable spaces.

This is a high-profile and complex role. Vancouver's parks and recreation facilities are cherished and central to the city's world-class reputation as liveable community.

The work of the General Manager is high profile and involves ongoing engagement with elected officials, the public and media.

With around 2,500 employees and an annual operating budget of $160 million, Vancouver Parks and Recreation is a serious enterprise.


You will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to public service and understand the role of a chief civil servant supporting an elected board.

This is a strategic role but you will be prepared to be hands-on when necessary. We are seeking people who are collaborative, constructive and focused on outcomes. You will also demonstrate unquestionable integrity.


The City's COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time.

However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
