The Risk Management Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic first line of defense business partner supporting Canadian leadership in meeting our Client for Life goals by providing comprehensive understanding of operational risk, and supporting the design of effective solutions to manage risk within the business.

We partner with Canadian leadership, first line of defense Business Unit Risk Officers, and second line of defense Risk and Compliance stakeholders to assess operational risks, enhance control frameworks, educate business on risk management, provide oversight on risk policy requirements and ultimately enable the business to evolve while maintaining risk within appetite.

The scope of the team is broad, as our internal clients include all business areas supporting Group Benefits, Group Retirement Services, Client Experience Office and Individual Insurance and Wealth.

As a Consultant, Operational Risk, you will support risk activities across multiple programs in the Share Services portfolio within the Risk CoE in Canada and will be a key point of contact for Canadian execution managers and second line of defense stakeholders to identify, assess and manage operational risks within the portfolio.

What will you do?:

Assess risk and control effectiveness within assigned portfolios, identify opportunities to improve risk management
Support risk assessments to measure risk exposures, identify internal control weaknesses, improve the control environment, and minimize the risk of loss events
Support the rollout of new/changed risk and compliance requirements by identifying the impact to assigned business areas and supporting business partners in the design and maintenance of processes/controls to meet these requirements
Provide risk consulting expertise and support risk reviews for key business projects, digital initiatives, and process changes
Support recommendations on effective control design and operational risk management best practices
Monitor and track status of risk issues and activities in portfolio scorecard

What do you need to succeed?:

Exposure to risk management practices including risk assessment, risk monitoring, control design and control effectiveness
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize many competing demands
Strong verbal and written communication skills, experience presenting to business partners
Proactive and highly motivated individual who will take initiative and is able to manage unstructured activities
Strong analytical, problem resolution and consensusbuilding skills
Experience in process mapping as well as identification and assessment of process risks and supporting controls
Strong knowledge of RSA Archer GRC platform, Tableau and Microsoft suite programs

Assets:

Background in Canadian Business Unit functions
Experience in risk management or related functions (e.g. compliance, process improvement)
Exposure to project, program and/or portfolio management
Certification in risk management and/or process improvement
