With a growing demand for environment and climate-focused activities, we are looking for a dedicated and efficient team player to support the delivery of our Environment and Climate Change workstream, including the United Nations Global Compact's 'Lead and Shape' approach to Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action).


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the delivery of our environment and climate initiatives in a manner that encourages our network members to take bold corporate action while supporting UN Global Compact Network Canada (GCNC) and UN Global Compact's environment and climate priorities.
  • Working alongside the Global Compact Office to lead and support the delivery of the UN Global Compact Climate Ambition Accelerator and Climate Peer Learning programmes.
  • Supporting GCNC's active participation in COP28 and other relative global and local events.
  • Lead the liaison with the Canadian government, network members, civil society, the United Nations and other stakeholders on strategically aligned environmental and climate change issues.
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of the network's activities for the Environment and Climate Change workstream, including roundtables, seminars, webinars, training workshops, working groups and conferences.
  • Conduct research and write publications that address current environmental and climate change trends and business practices.
  • Provide timely insights on public policy trends that strengthen private sector engagement.
  • Work with senior management to draft proposals for grants and other funding opportunities to further support the Canadian private sector in adhering to the environmental principles of the UN Global Compact and in following up on the targets of SDG 13: Climate Action.
  • Work with the marketing team in the development of appealing online content to support programming and enhance awareness of GCNC's activities.
  • Write reports and summaries for activities related to the environment portfolio.
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of environmental sustainability in the areas of natural resources, biodiversity and/or climate change and the responsible business agenda.
  • Strong interest in driving corporate action on climate change.

  • Ability to communicate persuasively in written form to engage businesses at scale.

Proven delivery of results:

  • Outlines and executes clear goals while prioritizing activities and assignments tracks progress and adjusts priorities as required.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION:


  • A Degree in the environment, sustainable development, sustainability management, or equivalent.

WORK EXPERIENCE:


  • 4+ years of experience working on projects related to environmental sustainability.
  • Prior experience working on corporate sustainability projects is preferred.
  • Prior experience with project management would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in English is essential (full command of both spoken and written). Knowledge of the French language would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with the United Nations Global Compact's Ten Principles, environmental programs and initiatives would be considered an asset.

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months


Salary:
$55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
