JOB SUMMARY:


Reporting to the Plant Manager and directing the production supervisory team, the Production Manager leads the production activities at the Moorefield, Ontario location.

This position is responsible for overseeing the production operations of the Moorefield facility, with a focus on balancing health and safety, product quality and production efficiencies to ensure all these areas are taken as a priority.

Understanding environmental and regulatory responsibilities is critical in this role, due to the yields of our raw material Darling Moorefield produces more water from our raw material, than sellable finished product.

We clean this water and discharge it back into the natural watershed on an annual basis.

Personnel development, and human resources standards and ensuring high levels of both employee and customer satisfaction is critical for building and maintaining an engaged work force with a good plant morale.

The Production Manager is also a key member of the sites Plant Operations leaders working collaboratively with all other departments heads as a unified Leadership Team.


POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead, mentor and support a group of 4 Supervisors, 1 Lead Hand and 26 employees in the operations of plant to meet health and safety, quality, production efficiency and yield standards; takes a leadership role in all investigations, inspections, and audits
  • A strong people person that fosters a positive relationship on the plant floor and at all levels of the business and with all external contacts
  • Assume a Leadership role in the Health and Safety program, including driving a safety focused culture on the plant floor and safety related work orders, and initiatives
  • Administrate and publish reports on all first aids, medical aids and lost time accidents; participates in and supports all accident investigations, corrective actions and employee RTW procedures
  • Ensure current and future departmental compliance with all standards, including the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, CFIA, etc.
  • Take the lead in maintaining, enhancing, developing and compliance with the HACCP plan, GMP's, SOP's and procedures within the Production department, and when overlapping with other departments and business units
  • Provide support and facilitate effective work group meetings within the production department
  • Develop and manage the overall Production budget with timely and detailed reporting of variances to budget
  • Participate/Lead union management complaint and grievance processes and participate into active management of the CBA and in negotiations as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A strong people person, understanding emotional intelligence is not required but is an asset to this role.
  • The successful applicant will have a minimum 35 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing. Experience in a feed ingredient or food manufacturing environment is a definite asset but not required.
  • Min 35 years of JHSC leadership or engagement also having full comprehension of Bill C45 and Bill 168 and the accountabilities associated with those legislative bills.
  • Enthusiastic, positive and selfmotivated person with an open mind to constantly learn something new every day. Has the ability to work independently, and in a team.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, and organizational skills
  • Supervisory experience illustrating an inclusive team management style approach
  • Strong coaching/mentoring skills to assist with staff development
  • Proven ability to multitask in a fast pace environment
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Familiarity with 5S and Lean methodology and philosophy is an asset
  • Strong communication skills and cooperation required across other functional business areas, across corporate teams, regulatory bodies, communities, and local businesses
  • Supervisor experience in a unionized
