Compensation Range

$5, $8,508.42 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary


The Project Manager I manages the entire lifecycle of a small project or phases of a larger project which includes developing a project plan, coordinating the activities of a project team, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of the project.

The Project Manager I is responsible for the coordination of learning technology projects at UBC right through to completion. Primarily works on Learning Technology Hub software projects from the design phase through a service implementation.

Acts as a point of contact for LT Hub partners and provides support to planning, estimating, implementation, and administration activities.

Organizational Status

Works within the DevOps group as part of a team providing learning technology services to the University Community.

Liaises with personnel from other LT Hub groups, Faculty Instructional Support Units, various Campus service units, University technology professionals, external consultants, architects, trades, faculty, staff, and students.

Work Performed


Specific Duties:

  • Prepares project plans and aspects of contingency plans.
  • Develops schedules and timelines for the various departments to ensure work performed is completed on schedule.
  • Allocates resources to projects according to project plans and resource availability.
  • Consults with LT Hub groups, Faculty Instructional Support Units, various Campus service units, University technology professionals, external consultants, architects, trades, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Prepares estimates based on project requirements.
  • Provides project management for the delivery of LT Hub projects.
  • Reviews and approves specifications.
  • Creates project logs, documenting the steps and people interactions needed and performed during all the phases of a project.
  • Produces written updates outlining the progress of projects and other documents associated with the completion of a project.

Core Duties:

  • Initiates projects following appropriate project management methodology including gathering and defining project requirements, developing project charters, project plans, budgets and schedules, identifying staffing requirements, and forming project teams.
  • Follows project management methods, procedures, and quality objectives, and tracks metrics for assessing progress.
  • Provides work direction and leadership to the assigned project team, including scheduling, assignment of work, review of project efforts, and removal of roadblocks that may inhibit project success.
  • Assesses variances from the project plans, budgets, and schedules, develops and implements changes as necessary to ensure that the project remains within the specified scope and is within time, cost, and quality objectives, and keeps management aware of the situation.
  • Conducts formal review with the business sponsor at project completion to confirm acceptance and satisfaction.
  • Identifies and recommends potential improvements in current methodologies.
  • Develops and maintains a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors, and key clients.
  • Maintains appropriate professional designations and uptodate knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement

Errors in LT Hub estimates could result in University projects going over budget. Errors in LT Hub scheduling could result in delays forcing the University project to start of term deployment windows.

Supervision Received


Works under the general administrative direction on projects and service priorities as assigned by the CTLT Senior Manager, Learning Applications, Integrations, and Analytics.

Supervision Given


Provides project information to LT Hub staff to make sure that learning techology projects awareness is communicated to the Team.

Monitors progress of projects as assigned and coordinates activities to ensure that deadlines are met.
