Job Purpose:The Medical Lead within Medical Affairs will be responsible for providing expert scientific capability and leadership while being accountable for a broad range of Medical Affairs activities associated with assigned products and within the Respiratory Therapeutic Area.

The Medical Lead within Medical Affairs will be responsible for:


  • Leading and overall execution of the Canadian Medical strategy for the asset/disease area within the country.
  • Development and execution of the strategic & operational plans alongside the Medical Advisors and Medical Science Liaisons.
  • Ensuring the medical voice of the customer is deeply understood, synthesized into medical insights and clearly translated into appropriate actions to enable appropriate use of our medicines and vaccines for patients in Canada.
  • Partnering with Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) to generate evidence that captures the value of our medicines and vaccines and addresses the future needs of regulatory bodies, payers, HCPs and patients.
  • Accelerating research and expanding the clinical value of pipeline through optimization of the Clinical-Medical partnership.
  • Partnering with Regulatory Affairs and Government Affairs and Market Access (GAMA) to provide expert scientific product and disease knowledge in support of regulatory and HTA submissions.
  • Advocating for the medical resource and data needed to support successful commercialization of products.
  • Being recognized as a trusted partner with Commercial providing medical guidance and input and aligning and supporting promotional engagement strategy.

Details (Your Responsibilities):


  • Provide expert scientific product and disease knowledge and trusted medical leadership to GSK Canada and to global medical networks.
  • Build and leverage high quality scientific knowledge and capability expertise across the enterprise.
  • Deliver external engagement excellence characterized by timely, responsible and responsive interactions with the external medical and scientific community to achieve a twoway trusted scientific partnership.
  • Accountable for regular review and analysis of data analytics and medical voice of customer to derive insights and develop action plans to deliver on the medical strategy.
  • Lead, develop and implement a Canada Medical Strategic Plan for medicines within the IL5 Therapeutic Area including:
  • External scientific engagement activities
  • Identifying areas of research interest and developing timely local study protocols which advance the scientific understanding of our medications
  • Developing Medical Education plans
  • Identifying advisory board/1:1 interaction needs, and leading their implementation and followup
  • Ensuring alignment with commercial strategic planning
  • Managing research budget and budget forecasting processes for assigned products and therapy areas
  • Interact with global teams to influence global clinical development plans in order to optimize patient access to innovative medicines in Canada.
  • Provide scientific strategic input to the Regulatory and GAMA to allow GSK to demonstrate the value of GSK products to achieve optimal product labeling, reimbursement outcomes and patient access.
  • Evaluate and manage investigatorsponsored studies to advance research on disease and its treatment, aligned to the areas of research interest.
  • Deliver study reports and local publications related to local research activities.
  • Support the Respiratory Therapeutic Area in the review of all medical grant and donation requests (including Independent Medical Education requests) and congress sponsorship requests to ensure alignment with therapy area strategies.
  • Lead the development and implementation of advice seeking interactions (e.g.

1:1 interactions, advisory boards):

  • Identifying advisory board needs
  • Securing necessary approvals
  • Ensuring agenda meets local needs and not duplicated elsewhere
  • Leading the selection of participants
  • Completing due diligence reports and contracting
  • Ensuring insights/learnings are shared and addressed
  • Leverage medical and scientific knowledge to ensure that all materials produced are medically and scientifically accurate and in compliance with local and GSK requirements.
  • Contribute to patient safety by reporting, in a timely manner, all adverse events identified during the interactions with customers in accordance with internal policies and training, including any follow up information received.
  • Line management of one or more team members as required (dependent on evolving needs of the business).
