The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager, Pediatric Perioperative Services, the Clinical Leader Development (CLD) acts as a resource to interdisciplinary team members by identifying, prioritizing, implementing and evaluating strategies that support competency development and maintenance of team members.

Working in collaboration with the Clinical Leader Operations and Anesthesia Assistant Team Leader, the CLD facilitates a learning environment whereby team members are supported to work to their full scope of practice and/or scope of employment.

The CLD has overall responsibility for the coordination of orientation and ongoing continuing education associated with new and returning staff, new preceptors, practice and equipment changes, quality initiatives, and family-centered care.

The CLD demonstrates excellence in leadership, role-modeling, communication and organizational skills, problem-solving and decision-making.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitates ongoing orientation (multidisciplinary) and learning for new and transferring staff, as well as learner placement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates support and commitment to professional development.
  • Mentors team members through supporting, teaching, role modeling and coaching.
  • Mentors preceptors in performance review process for new staff.
  • Identifies clinical issues requiring staff education and works collaboratively with the Manager, Perioperative Team Members, Clinical Leaders and Anesthesia Assistant Team Leader to address learning needs.
  • Role models professional practice and promotes safe practice.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for staff in patient/family care issues.

Hours of Work:

7.5 hours Monday - Friday (flexibility required)


Your Qualifications:


  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with CRNNS required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent (in the past 5 years) pediatric clinical experience required in the pediatric operating room setting.
  • Current successful completion of CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
  • Recent experience with preceptor role an asset.
  • Recent experience leadership experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a busy, fastpaced environment required.
  • CNA Certification in perioperative nursing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning required.
  • Completed continuing education in adult education/learning, leadership or team training an asset.
  • Demonstrated time management, communication (verbal & written), organizational and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, delegation, critical thinking and problemsolving skills involving innovation/creativity in solution development.
  • Proven team building, leadership, and goal development and evaluation skills.
  • Competencies in other languages considered an asset, French preferred.
