Job Summary


The Electrical Technician will install electrical components and lead in the wiring and support of automated equipment installations, provide technical support during startup and system testing and supervise recommissioning at the customer's facility.

Technicians in this position will be responsible for installation and startup of Power Distribution, PLC's, VFD's, Servos, Motors, and I/O field devices, analyzing project requirements and sourcing the required cables and components for project completion.

Technicians will work with the engineering team as well as project managers, customers, machine builders and programmers to solve problems and provide the customer with a complete and functional system.

Essential Duties

  • Electrical
  • All aspects of wiring and installation of automated machinery
  • Interpret electrical design drawings for electrical requirements (AutoCAD)
  • Document changes on the floor and ensure all electrical drawings are updated
  • Document methods and best practices for electrical installations and I/O verification
  • Provide input on equipment installations and troubleshooting
  • Build and assist in the design of standard control panels
  • Assist in continuous improvement of electrical hardware for improved efficiencies
  • Software
  • Setup and configure VFD's, Servo Drives and wire motors to specified voltage (SEW, Schnieder)
  • Assign IP addresses and communication parameters to outofbox I/O modules and control devices
  • Download Safety, PLC, and HMI programs for start of integration (Omron, Schnieder)
  • Follow startup guides for industrial robots (Kuka)
  • Test, troubleshoot issues, maintain, and modify electrical control systems
  • General
  • Work collaboratively with design engineers and other internal staff
  • Interface with contractors and other relevant authorities (e.g., ESA) to gain necessary information required to successfully complete electrical wiring designs
  • Understand and ensure compliance with health and safety standards for Canada and United States.
  • Assist in gathering and creation of video and picture documentation
  • Work within standardized business practices and workflows to maintain consistency and predictability in deployment of the Equipment Business Plan
  • Supervision of contractors for various portions of projects
  • Listen, understand, and convey customer/equipment requirements

  • Ability to communicate in both the written and spoken language of English to a level that will allow the safe and effective performance of the job
  • Ability to work from and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle stress in a fastpaced work environment
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects/deadlines and understanding of project management tools such as Ghant charts, work breakdown structures, etc.
  • Ability to effectively work with material and resource planning systems, spreadsheets, word processing documents, and other applicable computer systems and software, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and problemsolving skills
  • Capacity to think critically, calculate, analyze, and track figures/data and make competent decisions based on those figures/data
  • Communication, teamwork, and customer service skills are critical as employee is expected to work directly and indirectly with all levels of employees, customers, and outside vendors
  • Consistently demonstrate a high level of responsibility and accountability in assigned tasks

Education and Experience

  • Electrical
Technician/Technologies certificate from accredited school or equivalent industry-recognized certification

  • Certificate/Licensure as Industrial Electrician or Maintenance Electrician preferred
  • Minimum three years of handson experience in electrical wiring, troubleshooting, and system integration; experience with machine building, packaging equipment, automation industry, and/or robotics preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and Servo drives
  • Working knowledge and experience with electrical industry standards CSA/ESA/UL

Physical Requirements

  • Consistent walking, talking, hearing, sitting, standing, repetitive motions, movements requiring fine motors skills and visual acuity
  • Occasional carrying, reaching, handling, grasping, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling, balancing, stooping
  • Work is typically performed in an office environment though certain tasks/projects may occur outside or in a manufacturing environment
  • Safety glasses, steel/composite toed shoes, and hearing protection when working in manufacturing environment

Travel Requirements

  • This position may require up to 10% travel in Canada/US between customer and vendor sites by use of company or personal motor vehicle
