Job Title:
Accounting Clerk


Summary:

Kiwassa Neighbourhood House is a multi-service community agency operating in East Vancouver, with a mission to cultivate opportunities with people and partners to build a socially just, resilient, and connected community.

We are seeking an Accounting Clerk to join our Finance team and work with people across the organization on accounting tasks.

You will be responsible for Accounts Receivable, assist with Accounts Payable, financial claims, and claim and account reconciliation work.

You will have demonstrated professional and superior organizational skills, meet your deadlines, maintain confidentiality on all levels, enjoy working with attention to accuracy and detail on repetitive tasks, in a clear highly motivated and enthusiastic attitude for the work.

This is a position in a unionized environment work site covered by a Collective Agreement with the BCGEU.

Key Responsibilities


Accounts Receivable, Account reconciliation, Accounts Payable, and Accounting Functions:

  • Perform and manage Accounts Receivable, invoicing, monthly funder/tenant/customer account reconciliations, administer pre-authorized debits, process timely EFT.
  • Manage and reference funding contracts to A/R invoicing, monitoring funder receivables.
  • Ensure proper payment controls, follow internal accounting controls policies and procedures withing the A/R, A/P processing task.
  • Monitor and record customer payments made manually or online; Prepare bank deposits; Maintaining post
- dated cheques/payments.

  • Prepare and process annual tax receipts.
  • Perform/assist with Accounts Payable functions, invoicing review, monthly vendor account reviews, during scheduled payment processing.
  • Perform /assist with scheduled monthly and yearend subledger account reconciliations for multiple departments.
  • Assist with and prepare, a/r, a/p, financial claim or other reports.
  • Prepare and record monthly journal entries from source documents, reconcile General Ledgers, and generate applicable reports.
  • Complete and review credit card account reconciliation and or other accounts.
  • Calculate/assist with government remittances including EHT, GST rebates, and Work Safe BC premiums.
  • Assist with annual budget preparations and account code maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Finance team, Directors, and Coordinators, frontline staff.
  • Perform and assist with other duties as assigned and required.
  • Backfill other accounting staff during absences.

Funder Financial Claims and Financial Reporting:

  • Assist with preparing monthly, bi-annual, and annual program funder financial claims and preparing other related reports within deadlines established.
  • Assist with preparing contract and funder financial reports within contract guidelines and budgets using accounting reports to complete financial claims, using advanced Excel skills.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of recent, related experience and training, preferably within a nonprofit multicultural environment.
  • Bookkeeping and accounting courses.
  • Sound knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to the work, including provincial employment laws.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to learn data entry and verification procedures along with processing financial information with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently managing multiple projects under pressure, including completing unscheduled tasks while also meeting existing deadlines. Demonstrated organizational skills and capacity to prioritize. Able to coordinate promptly with others. Punctual. Have pride in taking accountability for work performed.
  • Experience working with confidential information.
  • Willingness to learn, always looking to refine and improve processes.
  • Thoughtful and critical thinking skills, with sound judgement and initiative, and analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and enthusiasm for accounting work.
  • Confidentiality, resourcefulness, and flexibility.
  • A Selfstarter, with ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team with good listening skills. Ability and enjoyment from working within a team.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet tight deadlines and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage work with mínimal supervision and complete number of tasks simultaneously for multiple management staff.
  • Take initiative, adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently while demonstrating a keen interest in repetitive accounting work.

Remuneration:


This is a, casual and or part to full time opportunity with potential hours up to 35 hours/week, that pays up to 51,000/year.
