Job Purpose

The primary role of this position is to provide tier-one level support.

The incumbent will maintain an effective and efficient help desk environment ensuring service issues are addressed in a timely and constructive manner and delivering exceptional customer-centred service to all end users.

The Help Desk Technician supports all user-based information technology systems. This position handles highly sensitive and confidential information on a regular basis.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve support request tickets from the help desk ticketing system.
  • Escalate tickets to the appropriate resource.
  • Monitor internal service level commitments to assist in keeping organizational systems running smoothly.
  • Perform system testing, training, and technical support to users.
  • Together with the supervisor, helpdesk and network administrator, install software security patches, perform operating system upgrades, performance tuning, and log analysis.
  • Install and manage end user computer devices including workstations, laptops, tablets, telephone handsets, and mobility devices.
  • Administer Windows Server, Active Directory and MS Exchange to support the end user computer environment.
  • In coordination with the network administrator, ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
  • Monitor network and workstation usage, performance, and security.
  • Provide support for the Local Area Network (LAN) and to remote users. Log user problems and errors and the steps required to solve issues.
  • Update predetermined maintenance publications on the network/laptop(s) as required.
  • Additional duties as required which may include cross training.

Qualifications:


  • 12 years of related experience is required. Working knowledge and/or certification in A+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or related network/IT designation is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft business products (Microsoft Office, Office 365, etc.), MS Exchange, Windows 10 operating system connected to a corporate network, and experience working in a help desk environment is required.
  • Familiarity with maintaining Word Press websites, Microsoft Teams and Share Point is an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
