Shipper & Receiver (Casual - 12 Months)

Alberta Innovates is seeking a Shipper & Receiver for a casual term position at our Edmonton location. The workdays and hours will vary. This position will include travel as needed to other company locations, e.g. Devon, Vegreville.


Under direct supervision, the Shipper & Receiver is responsible for the receipt and shipment of incoming mail, materials, supplies, and products.

This position receives goods, verifies items against the record of shipment, and inspects condition.

Other responsibilities include gathering, verifying, and packing items for shipment according to specifications and the transportation method used; recording received and shipped items according to established procedures; and unloading, delivering and/or distributing goods to the appropriate department promptly.

The Shipper & Receiver liaises with internal and external clients, delivery, and transportation companies to ensure timely in-coming and out-going shipments and deliveries.

Other duties as assigned, but not limited to, relieving the company Visitor & Facilities Steward (Receptionist) for breaks.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Shipping, receiving, and delivering materials throughout the building
Providing mail distribution services and warehouse duties
Operating company vehicles for maintenance, cleaning, and positioning
Liaising internal and external clients, delivery, and transportation companies to ensure timely in-coming/out-going shipments and deliveries
Interacting with the general public from time to time
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
Covering for reception desk


Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma
Three years of experience in shipping and receiving
Ability to perform lifting up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis
Ability to handle cylinder that is about 200 lbs
Experience in shipping internationally and shipping dangerous goods
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to follow direction
Computer proficiency
Valid Class 5 Driver's License
