At Sinai Health, we care, create possibilities and offer hope. We are looking for a safety assistant to join the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) team.

Working under the leadership of the Manager, Occupational Safety, and together with the other Safety Specialists, the role of the Safety Specialist Assistant supports OHS programs and initiatives at all Sinai Health locations.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Implement the WHMIS program, ensuring new hire and annual training requirements are met and MSDS database is up to date.
  • Support the Safety Specialists in the development of an integrated, leading practice Chemicals Management Program.
  • Support the Ergonomic Specialist in the implementation of a leading practice Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Program.
  • Research bestpractice solutions to a variety of health and safety issues and provide evidenceinformed advice to progress our health promotion and injury prevention goals.
  • Provide incident investigation support as required.
  • Conduct various safety training programs and champion and deliver a variety of health, safety and wellness initiatives for all hospital units.
  • Provide assistance in the development of metrics and progress reports.
  • Update health and safety materials, websites and databases.
  • Maintain the N95 respiratory fit testing program
  • Other tasks as required


  • Job Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized educational institution
  • 13 years prior experience
  • Direct experience in a hospital environment an asset
  • Previous experience delivering training to large groups
  • Working knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Ability to conduct literature searches and bestpractice reviews
  • Proven ability to develop effective relationships and confidence to approach staff to promote uptake of health promotion and injury prevention programs.
  • Flexible with the ability to work efficiently in a fastpaced, multitasking and dynamic environment
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Effective, clear, and precise communication skills written, verbal and presentations
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment is essential
  • Professional, diplomatic approach when working across all functional groups
  • Ability to work independently as well as contribute as part of a team
  • Selfmotivated
  • Ability to use MS office suite of tools, experience with Parklane Software an asset
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
