New Beta Innovation Canada Limited (NBI-CA) is a biopharmaceutical manufacturer of hemoglobin-based therapeutics. In Burnaby, BC, we have a state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant facility, with custom-designed equipment for commercial-scale production. Our production processes are undergoing validation for rigorous GMP requirements.


Our operations include a full in-house analytical laboratory, a water purification plant, a skilled engineering team, and experts in compliance and regulatory affairs.

POSITION OVERVIEW

1.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, monitor and audit components in the H&S program
  • Deliver or source safetyrelated training and education as required
  • Provide guidance to all staff regarding the interpretation and administration of the Workers' Compensation Act (WCA), Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) as well as other relevant legislation
  • Collaborate with departments to identify, assess and recommend strategies to prevent workplace incidents from occurring
  • Work collaboratively with departments to promote compliance and responsible behavior as mentioned in company policies, relevant H&S standards, codes, regulations and best practices
  • Develop, conduct, and/or source H&S related training which include H&S orientation, JHSC training, Respectful Workplace policy training, etc.
  • Assist with incident reporting and investigations
  • Act as a key contact for external parties for claims, audits and compliance requirements relating to safety
  • Lead and/or participate in a variety of safetyrelated meetings
  • Collect safety data including, but not limited to, training, WorkSafeBC statistics, workplace incidents, etc.
  • Manage and update all H&S documentation and programs
  • Perform other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A diploma, certificate or degree in Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), Industrial Hygiene or Industrial Sciences
  • Minimum 1 year of OH&S experience
  • Knowledge of the WCA, OHSR, and Claims Management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Energetic, selfmotivated and presents H&S in a positive and practical manner
  • Strong organizational and timemanagement skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Biosafety Standards is an asset
  • Valid OFA Level 1 is an asset
