This position reports to the Health, Safety and Environment Manager and is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety strategies, policies, and programs to ensure a safe work environment for all employees.


The Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring health and safety compliance with applicable legislation and existing Elexicon Energy policies and procedures.

This individual will play a crucial role in collaborating with other team members and the broader organization to develop and implement an integrated occupational health, safety, and environmental management system serving as a catalyst for change and require strong monitoring to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental practices are met.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with industry standards, and provincial and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to develop and implement corrective actions and preventive measures to mitigate risk.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on health and safety matters.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to promote awareness and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and near misses, and recommend appropriate measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain and update safety records, documentation, and reports.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards and best practices to ensure compliance with evolving health and safety legislation.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and organizations to stay informed about industry trends and participate in relevant forums and conferences.
  • All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Postsecondary education in occupational health and safety, or related field.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in occupational health and safety.
  • Safety certification (e.g. CRSP, CHSC, or NCSO) is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience developing and managing health and safety management programs in accordance with ISO requirements.
  • Indepth knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Proven analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks effectively, prioritize requests, and adapt well to change.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams).
  • Understanding of office management procedures as they relate to compliance documentation.
  • Outstanding communication and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to be inquisitive while building trust with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, management of deadlines, and accuracy while working in a fastpaced environment.
  • Energetic team player with a strong work ethic and a customer focus integrity and the willingness to own scope of work and associated issues.
