The Position

The Financial Wellness Partner administers bankruptcy files, analyzes and resolves various bankruptcy matters in a proactive manner utilizing established department procedures while understanding the impact of the job on affected accounts and affected functional areas.

Interaction with Clients and other team members is required frequently to carry out the duties of this role.

Key Accountabilities


Estate Administration:


  • Adhere to BIA and OSB Directives relating to the administration of Bankruptcy Estates regarding compliance of filing/reporting deadlines.
  • Document all Estate Administration information according to BSI's Best Practices and guidelines.
  • Prepare reports following legislative guidelines for the Licensed Insolvency Trustee and the Court.
  • Utilize the Bankruptcy Estates Administration dashboards to review estate files, track client performance, completion and readiness for discharge or annulment.
  • Monitor clients' payment performance and follows up on any Non-Sufficient Funds (NSFs), arrears, late or missed payments.
  • Provide guidance and instructions to Bankrupt on monthly income and nondiscretionary expenses in compliance with the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act ("BIA") and verifies and calculates statements to determine if surplus income is payable.
  • Communicate with clients to advise of changes to the Estate and next steps in the administration process.
  • Notify the Bankrupt to provide outstanding or incomplete information, as well as necessary follow up.
  • Identify and escalate unresolved difficulties or uncertainties to the Senior, Bankruptcy Estate Administration Specialist.
  • Follow due diligence i.e. verifies all information in compliance to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) and Privacy Act.
  • Utilize expert resource in the Senior or Manager.
  • Receive the Estate file submitted by Proof of Claims as an automatic reminder in the system on day 4
  • Book a first meeting with the Creditors (FMC) for Ordinary Estates.
  • Review the Estate file at specified checkpoints to ensure the Client is compliant with his/her duties.
  • Review the completion of the Bankrupt's duties according to specific legislative requirements.

Court Administration:


  • Open Court file for Ordinary Estates by preparing cheque and sending Notice to Creditors and the Court.
  • Open court files and sends documents to the court as required.
  • Coordinate with various courthouses to schedule monthly court dates and hearings.
  • Send Notice of Hearing to applicable parties; discusses with the Bankrupts their outstanding duties and provides advice with relation to court hearings Prepares draft Supplementary Reports and Court Orders for review by the Trustee to be provided to the court upon Trustee approval.

File Administration:


  • Process the Client's information by using applicable insolvency software.
  • Prepare the Client's file with quality per documented BSI Best Practice for monitoring/administration of the estate. The file is not handed over to any other department; the Estate Administrator handles the file from post signup to completion of the Bankruptcy Estate.
  • Make recommendations to the Trustee with relation to a Bankrupt's discharge.
  • In the event the Trustee will be objecting to the client's discharge, the Estate Administrator will contact the Client and discuss available options to resolve the issues.

People Relationships:


  • Provide and receive information from a variety of stakeholders i.e. Clients, Creditors, Trustee, OSB.
  • Model and promote BSI's organizational culture, purpose and values.
  • Champion and foster a climate of diversity and inclusion.
  • Use individual and team efforts to manage and improve internal and external relationships.

Education, Knowledge & Skills:


  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in a related field
  • Completion or working towards completing the Insolvency Administrator Qualification Course
  • Two or more years of relevant work experience in either Insolvency, Finance, Credit counseling or Legal areas
  • Working knowledge of an Insolvency software or industry specific software
  • Understanding or ability to learn quickly in regard to legislation such as the BIA
