Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 27,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

With a dedicated staff of more than 2,900, Grand Erie is committed to learning, leading and inspiring. The Education Centre is located in Brantford. The Board is currently seeking a Full-time Payroll Officer to join our team.

Required Abilities and Qualifications

  • Community college diploma in a related discipline, or the equivalent
  • Successful completion of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification, or the equivalent
  • Three years of recent payroll experience involving adherence to collective agreements and pension/benefits administration using a computerized payroll system
  • Strong customer service focus with an equally strong work ethic and the demonstrated ability to deal with competing priorities, multiple demands and frequent deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills are combined with superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership and strength in analyzing and problem solving
  • Attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to handle matters in a diplomatic, sensitive and confidential manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, this position will oversee the day to day payroll functions of the payroll team.

  • Day to day supervision and support of the payroll department
  • Providing technical support, including training the payroll department to ensure compliance with board policies and relevant legislation
  • Ensure payment schedules and processing timelines are completed in accordance with the relevant collective agreements and financial institution' requirements
  • Identify and monitor process improvement initiatives and provide standards for payroll administrators to follow
  • Ensure established payroll related policies, procedures and regulations are followed by the payroll department
  • Building and maintain collaborative relationships with Human Resources stakeholders and service providers
  • Reviewing payrolls to ensure accuracy
  • Responding to staff and service providers in a timely manner with focus on customer service
  • Assisting with annual payroll accruals, pension reporting and monthly account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Understanding and serving as backup for the processing of pays as well as assisting during peak workloads
  • Support with T4, T4A, OMERS and TPP reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Hours of Work

  • 7 hours per day/35 hours per week
  • Hybrid work arrangement
    Rate of Pay
- $67,539 to $76,749
Effective Date

  • As soon as can be mutually agreed upon
