LaPrairie Works Inc., a member of LaPrairie Group of Companies, provides highway and bridge maintenance, civil construction, slope stabilization and environmental remediation services across Western Canada. We are proud to be formally recognized with industry and ministerial awards for innovation and environmental stewardship, while managing long-term contracts within both provincial and federal jurisdictions.


We are looking to expand our highway maintenance operations areas and are preparing a response to an RFP announced by the Provincial Government for highway maintenance contracts in Central and Eastern Alberta.


The Superintendent, Highway Maintenance Operations, will report to the Senior Superintendent, and will oversee LAPRAIRIE's highway maintenance operations, within the CMA.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Ensure LaPrairie Works Inc. Environmental, Health & Safety (HSE) Program is being properly applied and followed.
  • Ensure Standard specifications for the applicable Highway Maintenance Contracts are being implemented and followed.
  • Organize and monitor highway maintenance operations and civil construction extra work projects within the area of responsibility to meet contract specifications and schedule milestones.
  • Schedule highway maintenance and civil construction personnel in accordance with daily, weekly, monthly, and annual work schedules.
  • Monitor and assess supervisor performance, relative to LWI HSE / QA-QC / Corporate policies and highway maintenance contract specifications.
  • Facilitate compliance with and worker instruction of LWI's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) / Safe Work Practices / HSE Program elements.
  • Ensure that emergency highway maintenance work is expedited at any time it is required.
  • Complete necessary schedules/ reports/inspections/investigations and maintain concise records.
  • Display a high degree of communication skills (written & verbal) with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Display a positive and cooperative approach to problem solving with colleagues, partners, clients, local community residents and leadership.

Required Skills:


  • 3+ years of field supervisory experience in a senior role.
  • Related technical training (such as SAIT or NAIT C.E.T.) or an equivalent combination of education and field experience would be considered assets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, presentation and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with LAPRAIRIE's corporate departments, key business partners, and its customer base.
  • Ability to innovate, find new methods and principles and ability to incorporate them into existing practices for continuous improvement.
