    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

    The Research Facilitator/Administrative Assistant is responsible for the administrative and financial management of all Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS) Internal Research Grant Programs and related budgets, for facilitating and administering all aspects of the Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program, and for providing administrative and budgetary support to the Executive Director, Research and Innovation.

    SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

  • Facilitates and assists candidates in the preparation and submission of Canada Research Chairs (CRC) nomination proposal packages and complex renewal submissions to ensure successful continuation of funding.
  • Support the recruitment and nomination process for new CRC's and provide administrative support to the Search Committee(s).
  • Develops and writes institutional sections of proposals, including relation to UWindsor's Strategic Research Plan (SRP), based on applicant's discipline and situation.
  • Provides budget development and rationale for applications to ensure acceptance by agency; prepares annual budgets for all Canada Research Chairs (CRC's).
  • Creates, co-ordinates and completes all steps in the renewal process, including establishment of a CRC reviewer committee.
  • Responsible for institutional reporting requirements for the CRC program.
  • Responsible for program management for all ORIS Internal Grant Programs.
  • Reviews all applications for internal grant programs and CRC nominations, including research proposal content, context, and methodologies; makes decisions to accept, reject or request additional information based upon defined criteria in the guidelines of the various programs.
  • Notifies all award/denial decisions to the applicants.
  • Serves as the primary contact and resource for ORIS.
  • Assists with hiring of staff members, students, contract employees, interns, and replacement staff, including preparing ARAC and Recommendation for Appointment forms.
  • Creates and writes the procedural guidelines and processes for the various grant programs in the incumbent's portfolio.
  • Provides administrative support to the Executive Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in research grant development and administration
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of funding agencies, policies, guidelines, and agreements, including Tri-Council Granting Agencies (NSERC, SSHRC & CIHR), and other federal and provincial programs and guidelines, such as Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program, Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) - Ontario Research Fund (ORF)
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including understanding diverse disciplines, strong analytical skills, resourcefulness, accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail, and follow-up required
  • Critical thinking skills required to review research proposals and resolve issues with processes
  • Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of administrative functions, and research grant proposals and programs; experience in program management
  • Ability to attend conferences and external research related events as required
  • Required to become member of Canadian Association Research Administrators (CARA), a professional association
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial matters, including budget development, journal entries, and budget transfers
  • Ability to handle and respond to diverse demands/expectations, i.e., agencies, researchers, Head/Dean and Senior Administration
  • Demonstrated proficiency with database administration, MS Office Productivity Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Lotus Notes, electronic financial management system (e.g., Uwinsite Finance) and website maintenance (e.g., Drupal)
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the internal structure and governance of the University community, including the services provided, lines of authority, and communication process.
  • Knowledge of faculty appointment processes.
  • THE FOLLOWING TESTS WILL BE ADMINISTERED:

    MS Word (Intermediate); MS Excel (Intermediate); Typing (40 NWPM); Writing Test (70% pass); Accounting Test (70% pass); Proofreading Test (70% pass).

  • HOURS OF WORK:

    Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm
