Reporting to the Safety Manager, the OCS Health & Safety Advisor will be responsible for providing support to the management team, supervisors, foremen and workers.
What You'll Do Here:
- Conduct Sitespecific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
- Training supervisors and staff on the Site Safety Plan.
- Training employees in WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response, confined space and fall protection.
- Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, etc.
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
- Conduct behavioural observations in the workplace.
- Update Safety Data Sheets as required.
- Develop workplace plans such as emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, fall protection.
- Distribution of safety material, supplies and equipment.
- Safety presentations to clients.
- Conduct weekly tool box talks.
- Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
- Inspects project facilities and recommends corrective actions.
- Coordinate activities of sitesafety coordinators.
- Working with the Claims Administrator assists with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
- Develop return to work and modified work programs.
- Accident/Incident investigations.
- Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
- Liaise with Government agencies.
- Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
- Coordination of environmental issues.
- Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
- At least ten years of OCS construction and or maintenance experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong knowledge of required provincial Regulations.
- Selfmotivated with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
- Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid Ontario (G) Driver's license.
- Familiarity with working on live Metrolinx tracks.
