Position Summary
Pacemaker Technician, Cardio Heart Function Clinic:
The Cardiac Pacemaker Technician will support the Cardiac Care Clinic by assessing and troubleshooting devices (pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICDs) for out
- patients in follow up and in-patients who require post implantation follow up and troubleshooting support. The technician will also support the overall function of the cardiac care clinic through prioritization and coordination of clinic activities to support clinic flow. These duties include checking patients in for appointments, performing ECG and vital signs and liaising with other clinic staff as required. This position supports the Hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families
On a practical level, you will
Assess pacemaker devices post implantation including verifying the settings and analyze whether the pacemaker settings are appropriate for patient's clinical status, including an assessment of the leads and battery function.
Assess pacemaker and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) devices at regularly scheduled intervals and when concerns about device raised by patient.
This includes reviewing and evaluating the data retrieved from the pacemaker, battery life, lead wire function and alerting the physician if any concerns are identified.
Perform patient and pacemaker assessments including programming of single and dual chamber pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICDs)Troubleshooting technical issues related to pacemaker and ICD devices
Perform clinical assessments such as vital signs and ECG on patients attending the clinic for pacemaker and heart failure appointments.
Works in conjunction with other team members to prioritize, co-ordinate and complete area workload and support clinic flow including other administrative duties related to but not limited to checking in patients, scheduling appointments and answering messages.
Assist with statistical data collection, equipment quality assurance and maintaining adequate departmental supplies.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a recognized course in Cardiac Diagnostic or equivalent required
Bachelor of Science Degree or diploma in Physiology and/or Anatomy or other related field an asset
Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologist (CSCT) certification required
BCLS Certification required
Minimum 1 year prior experience with device programming required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) an asset
Recent Pacemaker and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator Clinic experience an asset
NASPE (North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology) certification an asset
Minimum 2 years' experience in Arrhythmia program setting or minimum 1 year experience in ECG interpretation preferred
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
Competency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and clinical systems including Cerner and PaceArt etc.
Knowledge and ability to operate various industry programmers including Medtronic, Biotronic, Boston Scientific and Sorin etc.
Experience maintaining records, documentation and Quality Assurance data reports
Bilingualism in French/English an asset
