Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Capital Projects, the position of Project Leader - Interiors will provide project management services for the State of Good Repair program with a focus on interior renovations and coordination of the town's furniture and accommodation program.

Providing input to the senior supervisor for all SGR projects and capital renovations with respect to budget, scope and schedule;


Responsibilities:


  • Technical expertise to town departments with respect to architectural, interior renovations, furniture and construction;
  • Review of drawings and specifications for New Construction projects;
  • Ensures project scope meets the needs of the client group and all legislated requirements;
  • Prepares RFP and RFQ documents;
  • Prepares tender packages (drawings and specifications) for limited scope of work projects;
  • Coordinates with consultants for preparation of tender packages;
  • Effectively negotiates with contractors and manage changes involving time, scope and budget;
  • Administers consultant and contractor contracts, using knowledge of construction and contract law, CCDC2 2008, Document 600 and Document 6;
  • Effectively negotiates change orders to consultant and construction contracts;
  • Responsible for the financial control of capital projects, including related reporting to Manager and client groups;
  • Maintains detailed project documentation and budget administration;
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the project to ensure successful completion;
  • Town representative for the project and primary contact with contractor and consultant for all aspects of construction projects up to end of warranty period;
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Within the positions portfolio, the Project Leader-Interiors is also responsible for the town's furniture and accommodation program including:
  • Determine department furniture needs through consultation with staff
  • Provide furniture layouts for department review and approval
  • Manage furniture orders: coordinating design with furniture supplier, tracking furniture order, ensuring electrical, data and communications are installed to suit layout, coordinating installation, and following up with deficiencies.

Qualifications:


  • Registered as a Technician/Technologist with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists or as intern registered with the Ontario Association of Architects.
  • In addition to education requirements, a minimum of 5 years' experience in design and project management of construction, administering contracts and managing contractors and consultants
  • High proficiency with respect to AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Project management courses and PMP certification would be considered an asset.
  • LEED AP or LEED AP BD+C accreditation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in the interpretation of construction drawings, legal surveys, specifications and contract documents with experience in various types of construction projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of building technology, building systems servicing, construction practices, and terminology.
  • Experience with supply and install of furniture systems would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with interior design and interior renovations would be considered an asset.
  • Must have a good knowledge of various acts and codes including OH&S Act, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and any other applicable legislation. Knowledge of the town's standards in accessibility, sustainable construction and furniture, environmental policy and the town's purchasing bylaw would be an asset.
  • Understanding of OH&S Act and requirements and roles of a Supervisor under the OH&S Act.
  • Good understanding of contract law as it pertains to construction.
  • Experience in estimating, preparation of specifications and tender documents.
  • Understanding of types of hazardous materials and actions required under law and types of remediation.
  • Strong problem solving skills and be able to multitask and manage several projects at the same time with a proven ability to meet the constraints of time, budget and scope. Able to create concise written project documentation and keep accurate, organized project files.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and be committed to working in a teambased environment with a focus on continuous improvement and quality customer service.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills for presentations and reports.
  • Knowledge of asset management software would be an advantage.(JD Edwards)
