Geodis Freight Forwarding Canada is looking for a Project Specialist to join our growing
Industrial Project's team.


Industrial Projects, supplies and combines freight services, information management and added value into integrated transport solutions, together with services involving the transport of heavier or more complicated goods, often on a turn-key basis where cargo is taken 'door to door'.

The purpose is to support customers by offering one partner to solve their project supply chain challenges worldwide, with a focus on the Marine Logistics/ Military, Oil & Gas, Mining, Power, Renewables, Rail, Aid & Relief and Infrastructure markets.


Key Responsibilities:


Work according to the project process:

  • Overseeing movement of all international & domestic freight shipments
  • all modes: import/export; cross-trade; triangle business; on/offshore
  • Trains staff in processes, policies; letters of credit and embassy/consular documentation procedures
  • Supports and mentors' other employees involved in departmental projects
  • Key liaison with customers and internal operations staff
  • Oversees the preparation of accurate export documentation for international freight movements
  • Function as first point of contact for Industrial Project customers, special projects, and customer escalations
  • Review/Respond to requests (freight, tender, spot quote, customs, warehouse, insurance etc.)
  • Select the appropriate vendor and carrier(s)
  • Respond to customer requests for shipment status (Internal

  • Resolve customer billing inquiries
  • Coordinate with other departments to respond to inquiries and resolve issues
  • Escalate issues to next management level if appropriate
  • Break down and distribute into files and calculate charges
  • Enter all charges and profit shares
  • Close file, pass invoices and credit memos
  • Post information on system
  • Monitor reports, identify shipment exceptions, rectify potential service failures
  • Approve and manage the development of KPI's for operational functions (Air/Sea/Land/Rail/Warehouse and Project freight services for customer)
  • Ensures all project stakeholders complete assigned tasks and activities within the set timelines and maintains alignment with project schedule
  • Regular work with invoices, calculations of profit split and commissions, tracking and correcting mistakes in supplier invoices and following all quality routines
  • Document actions taken by entering required information into GEODIS freight management system
  • Procurement/expediting for domestic/international air/rail/ground/ocean project
  • Offshore/onsite coordination involving heavylift, oversized, overdimensional freight movements
  • Negotiating rates and services with third party carriers for specialized movements by charter, flatbed, barge, etc.
  • Maintain profits through consolidating containerized freight, reducing transport costs
  • Oversees the preparation of all required export/import documentation, including adherence to terms of Letters of Credit and other financial instruments Front line knowledge of interpreting letters of credit
  • Key negotiator with carriers and 3PL providers
  • Comply with corporate, regional, branch, and department policies and procedures
  • Any additional task or activity as requested by management

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education, or equivalent industry experience.
  • IATA, IMO and TDG Certification / Training desired.
  • Cargowise Certification (CCS or CCS) an asset.
  • Team Lead/Supervisory experience
  • Project Management Experience
  • 57 years relevant freight forwarding experience in marine, air, land, rail; chartering experience is an asset.
  • Fluent in English / Secondary languages (French) an asset.
  • Knowledge of supplier conditions, delivery terms, Incoterms and purchasing conditions.
