BCUC staff facilitate the regulatory process and support our Commissioners as they make well-informed decisions (see our

factsheet for more information). Our legal team is looking to hire an Articling Student for 2026/27 who, under the guidance and mentorship of a Principal, will acquire the skills, knowledge and experience necessary for successful admission to the Law Society of British Columbia (LSBC).
Among other responsibilities, the Articling Student will:
- support the BCUC's regulatory processes and day-to-day operations by conducting legal research, drafting documents, and supporting legal advice on a wide variety of matters;
- represent the BCUC in proceedings and negotiations;
- learn and apply different questioning and problem-solving techniques; and
- support the BCUC's staff and Commissioners on additional matters as required.
About you:
the successful candidate will:
- as of May 2026, have (i) graduated from a common law faculty of a Canadian university, or (ii) a Certificate of Qualification issued by the National Committee on Accreditation;
- bring an interest and/or experience in administrative law and utility regulation;
- have strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills; and
- be eligible to apply for the LSBC's Law Society Admission Program upon securing articles.
Previous experience in a law firm or in-house legal department is considered an asset.
Duration:
temporary full-time for one year. Anticipated start date to be in Summer/Fall 2026. Exact start and end dates to be confirmed with the successful candidate. The BCUC offers a hybrid work environment based out of our downtown Vancouver office and is open to discussing flexible arrangements to ensure accessibility.
Total compensation:
we offer a comprehensive compensation package including medical and dental coverage, a vacation entitlement of 10 days/annum (per LSBC guidelines), and fees associated with the Law Society Admission Program.
Expected salary:
$66,895.05 per annum.
