Job Purpose and Summary:


THP is currently embarking on a major project to transform some of its Business systems and is seconding its Billing Manager to the project.

As a result, THP requires an individual to handle the day to day operations of the Billing and Accounts Receivable department during the Business systems transformation project.


As a member of the leadership team, the Manager, Billing and Accounts Receivable is responsible for supporting the development of a high performing team within Financial Services, also ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service and patient experience.

The Manager, Billing and Accounts Receivable brings a high level of operational expertise, strong business acumen and superior leadership skills to an important corporate service and a diverse team.


Key Areas of Focus:


  • Ensuring a highly effective, resultoriented Billing and Accounts Receivable function with focus on patient and customer experience
  • Developing departmentspecific initiatives that focus on improving service and streamlining operations
  • Establishing, monitoring and reporting departmentspecific metrics
  • Managing risk, assessing internal controls and identifying monitoring and mitigating strategies
  • Effective and efficient resource management
  • Innovative approaches to revenue management and growth
  • Key supporting role in the planning and execution of the monthly financial close cycle and the annual external financial audit of the organization
  • Leadership support, direction and training to direct and indirect reports

Specific Accountabilities:


  • Provide effective, efficient and quality services through effective management of staff, facilities and financial resources
  • Provide leadership to the Billing and Accounts Receivable team of 20 staff
  • Ensure compliance to the Hospital Insurance Act and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Key supporting role to the Manager, General Accounting in the month end close, account reconciliations and the annual external audit
  • Assess and maintain strong internal controls
  • Enable the realization of benefits resulting from quality improvement, process redesign or other initiatives
  • Develop and implement innovative action plans to achieve required targets
  • Manage staff development by coaching and mentoring as well as identifying, supporting and facilitating staff continuing educational needs
  • Develop, plan and implement entrepreneurial and innovative ideas that enhance service delivery, cost effectiveness and support strategic initiatives

Key Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or a related field
  • Thorough understanding of regulations/legislation relating to a Billing and Accounts Receivable operation within a Hospital (e.g. Hospital Insurance Act)
  • A recognized accounting designation (preferable)
  • 35 years management or leadership experience within healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated leadership potential
  • Strong people/project leadership skills and ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including Senior Leadership, clinical and physician leadership, and leaders of other enabling services such as Registration, Patient Experience and Information Technology.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills combined with critical thinking and customer focused mindset
  • Engaged leader that connects and inspires a diverse team of high performers
  • Strategic conceptual thinker with the ability to integrate "big picture" thinking into operations
  • Computer skills, including MS Outlook, MS Office
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet based programs
  • Working knowledge of Epic Hospital Billing and Meditech Billing and Accounts Receivable systems
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
