SCOPE
Reporting to the Coordinator, the incumbent provides legal administrative support to the Office of the University Secretariat.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the agenda of the Associate General Counsel (coordinate appointments and organize meetings; prepare files, documents and materials for upcoming meetings, presentations and transactions.
  • Prepare drafts of demand letters, waivers, agreements, legal proceedings, contracts, appearances, hearing confirmations and format draft policies as well as other documents in both English and French. Review and proofread documents and correspondence to ensure compliance with legal procedures and grammatical usage.
  • Act as a liaison between the Associate General Counsel, Legal Counsels and internal and external clients for various tasks.
  • Transcribe Dictaphone minutes and documents.
  • Perform online legal research (e.g. CIDREQ, Strategis and Registre Foncier du Quebec, Azimut, and CanLII).

REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma of College Studies (3year technical DEC) in a field pertinent to the primary responsibilities and four to seven years of relevant experience.
  • Law firm experience an asset.
  • Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English and French in order to write and edit correspondence, provide and interpret detailed information and deal with complex situations in both official languages.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Outlook and Excel and Advanced knowledge of Word.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills: tact, diplomacy, resourcefulness, sound judgment, initiative and ability to multitask.
  • Discretion and confidentiality essential.
  • Proven experience in a fastpaced, deadlinedriven environment with marked ability to prioritize desirable.


Concordia University is an English-language institution of higher learning at which the primary language of instruction and research is English.

Since this position supports academic and administrative functions of the university, proficiency in English and French, as indicated, is required.
