Primary function:


This position reports to the Director General and is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the office, including coordinating staff for the delivery of legal aid services in the District Office, the court houses, staff offices and legal service centres.

The Manager of District Operations will also be responsible for managing, planning, developing and executing projects to enable the District to meet its deliverables; and for implementing corporate strategy and new programs.

Key accountabilities:


Manage the daily operations of the district office and courthouse locations in accordance with administrative and human resource policies and procedures

Supervise the work of district staff and assess performance in accordance with LAO's performance review process

Promote an understanding and accountability for LAO's corporate values and employment standards

Participate in hiring decisions, train employees and ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures

Assist with the coordination and oversight of legal aid service delivery in the District

Review financial and statistical reports and provide business analysis to the DG, RVP and RBM

Manage, plan and execute office, district and regional projects

Manage, plan and support yearly budgeting, business planning and risk analysis exercises

Coordinate with other District, Regional and PO teams by attending meetings, sharing information, participating in projects, creating committees

Support the DG with coordinating stakeholder relations and outreach, including acting as a delegate where necessary

Support the DG and other District staff with the Complaints Process

Support employee engagement; Occupational Health and Safety; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; and other corporate initiatives

Develop and support practices and procedures to implement FLS accountability for the District

Ensure the timely preparation and delivery of required statistical reports

Other related administrative and managerial duties as required

Travel within the Toronto Region will be required


Required skills & experience:


A good understanding of LAO's structure and services and an appreciation of the role of the Toronto District office in administering the provision of legal aid services

A solid understanding of LAO's management strategy and its business planning and budgeting cycles

Business analytical skills

A solid understanding of LAO's programs, including eligibility criteria and experience in making decisions on the eligibility of legal aid applicants

Proven ability to supervise staff and provide guidance and direction to staff

A good understanding of fun
