The Legislative Assembly of Ontario seeks a dynamic non-partisan leader who possesses proven strong leadership skills, in-depth parliamentary and legislative knowledge and demonstrated executive management experience in a parliamentary setting.

The Clerk is the chief permanent officer of the Legislature and the principle authority on the laws, practices and privileges of Parliament.

The Clerk has charge of all matters pertaining to the House and legislation and is the chief executive of Assembly administration.

The Clerk is appointed by the Assembly and serves at the pleasure of the Legislative Assembly at the rank and status of Deputy Minister.


What You'll Do:


  • Provide leadership, policy and strategic direction to four diverse and distinct divisions in the management of the Office of the Assembly.
  • Act as the Secretary of the Board of Internal Economy, the Assembly's governance body.
  • Provide expert advice to the Speaker and Members of the Legislature in all matters relating to parliamentary procedure and practice.
  • Create, maintain and ensure the custody of all records of the House.
  • Receive bills as introduced and ensure that they are processed in compliance with procedures in the Standing Orders of the House.
  • Provide procedural and administrative services for all Legislative Committees.
  • Lead and direct all administrative requirements relating to the operation of the House and its Committees as well as related elements such as security, education outreach and protocol.
  • Oversee and direct a range of legal and privilege related matters on behalf of the Assembly.
  • Act as the Secretary of the Ontario Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and Secretary of the Ontario section of the AssemblĂ©e Parlementaire de la Francophonie.
  • Receive dignitaries with or on behalf of the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly.
