PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Education Jurisdiction Manager, the purpose of the Education Jurisdiction Project Coordinator is to promote educational engagement with family and community.

This position will coordinate assigned program projects and initiatives, while providing administrative support to the program. This is a full-time permanent position that works onsite with moderate local travel required.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate Assigned Program Projects & Initiatives

  • Coordinate with other internal departments, outside agencies and organizations to receive and process required documents for department projects & initiatives
  • Liaise with consultants, Cowichan Tribes Band Members and stakeholders regarding assigned projects & initiatives
  • Research best practices for family and community engagement involvement in language, culture and education
  • Facilitate information sharing mechanisms to promote family and community discussion of education issues
  • Support the K12 Advisory team, family and community through assigned education projects & initiatives
  • Coordinate event details, such as agenda, participants, venue/location and other event details
  • Coordinate, schedule and attend committee meetings as required
  • Other related duties
Provide Administrative Support to the Program

  • Provide administrative support to the Education Jurisdiction Manager and other program staff as directed
  • Assist with day to day assignments and project work as directed.
  • Prepare and submit a variety of documents such as correspondence, reports, briefing notes and memorandums
  • Prepare and maintain program records, databases and other program related files
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of assigned projects
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties including but not limited to photocopying, faxing and scanning
  • Participate in staff and/ or department meetings, events, training and other initiatives
  • Other related duties

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

_documents)_**- Grade 12 or equivalent is required

  • Bachelor's Degree or technical certification in a related field preferred
  • Project Management Certification an asset
  • 2 years' administrative experience preferred
  • 2 years' project coordinating, public affairs work or related experience preferred
  • Experience working in a First Nations community is essential
  • Willingness to learn about Cowichan culture, language, customs, and traditions
  • Criminal Record Check (CRC) required
  • Valid BC Driver's License and reliable vehicle required

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Cowichan culture, customs, traditions and language is essential
  • Extensive knowledge of Quw'utsun Syuw'entst Lelum programs, services, policies and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of Cowichan Tribes' relationship with ISC, FNESC, external partners and resources
  • Welldeveloped written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated customer service abilities
  • Demonstrated planning, analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop positive relations with key stakeholders
  • Welldeveloped leadership abilities and conflict resolution skills
  • Time management skills with the ability to multitask different tasks simultaneously
