JOB DESCRIPTION:
A Constituency Assistant is a confidential employee responsible for the administration of the Constituency Office of a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
- Providing assistance and advocacy for constituents in their dealings with the provincial government, either directly or through appropriate referrals.
- Supporting the MLA's work within their communities through community outreach and liaison.
- Providing information to constituents about provincial government legislation and policies, including the MLA and government's position on provincial issues.
- Preparing communications materials, including advertising, householders, and mailings by the MLA, newsletters, websites and social media accounts.
- Managing the daytoday operations of the Constituency Office, including correspondence, bookkeeping, information management and other office duties, as required.
- Recruiting, training and supervising Constituency Office volunteers and practicum students, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to write clearly, concisely and professionally for a wide variety of audiences
- Communications:
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective information and advocacy strategies and to exercise diplomacy and political judgement.
- Experience with active listening, referral and advocacy. Customer service experience would be an asset.
- Ability to administer the various aspects of opening a new community office including budgeting, purchasing, and computer skills that will help grow the database and familiarize the community with the role of the MLA and his constituency office.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills, time management and independence.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold a professional and welcoming office environment.
- Knowledge of the structure and policies of the New Democratic Party and a fundamental knowledge of the role of the three levels of government.
- Specific knowledge of the constituency of Surrey-Cloverdale and its key issues, including demographics, land use issues, local businesses, the agricultural community, and the history and challenges of the community and its residents.
- Demonstrated familiarity with local community groups, including not for profits, athletics organizations, and business associations.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, Hindi, and Punjabi is a requirement of this position.
- Community minded and interested in helping develop and executing a strong outreach plan.
- Experience working independently and with flexibility including evenings, weekends and some holidays.
- Specific knowledge of significant cultures within the constituency would be an asset.
- Ability to oversee social media channels specifically Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter (X) creating advertisements and excelling in digital communications.
- Must have Class 5 driving license and access to vehicle.
