Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer and CIO, Canada, VP, Canadian Disability & Group Life is accountable for oversight, strategic planning and overall management of the operational objectives of the Group Disability and Life business, the largest Life and Disability organization in Canada.

With over 1,200 employees across Canada all obsessed with delivering exceptional service, this is a challenging operational role that requires a dynamic strategic leader.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Group Life, Critical Illness, Disability and Absence Management Solutions businesses. Ensure that our disability strategy and action plans focus on evolving the ways in which we service our customers and their employees, while equipping our employees with the tools to deliver best in class service.
  • Own the P&L responsibilities centered on delivering exceptional service to our clients. Manages departmental budgeting process associated with P&L responsibilities while allocating resources effectively to achieve goals.
  • Provide direction and oversight on the transformation and continuous improvement of our Disability operations to mitigate risk, drive cost efficiencies, improve the customer experience and deliver improved health outcomes for our customers.
  • Critical member of both the Operations Leadership Team and the Group Benefits Leadership Team, with accountability to collaborate and drive continuity aimed to deliver on Manulife's overall objectives.
  • Our integrity is paramount, ensure appropriate financial and operational risk management processes are in place, including risk associated with Manulife's reputation, litigation, and overall disability claims practices.
  • Act as an executive sponsor and responsible to manage key clients and market partners.
  • Will oversee the relationship with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and SISIP Financial, a crown agency that operates within the CAF to deliver a variety of programs and services to CAF members. This includes being accountable for the financial soundness and profitability of the plan while identifying and implementing new opportunities.
  • Ability to work across a matrixed corporate structure and build relationships and partnerships, internally & externally, with seniorlevel management, vendors, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Build, lead and develop a robust team that will execute with excellence and consistently work toward driving highperformance within the team.

Job Requirements:


  • Minimum 10 years progressive experience in group disability operations and/or financial management roles
  • Relevant university education, healthcare background, considered an asset.
  • In depth knowledge/experience in the group life and disability business and industry including understanding the market demands and the competitive landscape
  • Clear grasp of the financial, regulatory, and legal environment within the Disability industry, remaining current on changing requirements and anticipating trends or opportunities
  • Proven strategic and tactical leadership skills; ability to link specific and
