You are a passionate social purpose advocate with experience in granting environments, project management and stakeholder engagement. You are adaptive, thriving when working in complexity and can execute actionable workplans even within an uncertain context. You are resourceful and proficient in leading new projects and bringing them to life.
You proactively seek opportunities to advance the department's strategic goals and bring your lived and learned experiences to all aspects of your work.
You have a well-rounded understanding of the charitable/philanthropic landscape in Canada. You are connected to Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities and organizations across BC.You are skilled in building and maintaining foundational relationships to ensure the priorities of our work is relational, transparent, and accountable.
You have strong presentation, communication, and organizational skills; you are a skilled project manager. Your work is both process-oriented and results-driven; you balance relational work with moving things forward. You value transparency and are a natural collaborator. You can hold space for difficult conversations and model behavioural shifts that support positive cultural change.

About the Position
The Emergent Opportunities (EO) team is composed of versatile generalists that lead strategic projects outside of the 3-10-year plan within the Grants and Community Initiatives (GCI) department.
Key projects include managing 1-2 year grant programs, conducting research, implementing human-centered design, organizing internal events, and providing support to other department teams.
The Manager, Emergent Opportunities is the team's primary grants manager, designing and delivering grant programs typically with funding between $500k and $15 million.
While centered in the Emergent Opportunities team, the Manager requires generalist skills, excellent project management, relational skills, and alignment with GCI's strategic goals.
Overall Responsibilities
- Grantmaking _
- Initiates open and closed grant opportunities, managing project timelines, and coordinating internal and external communications with Communications team
- Develops and hosts sessions to share information about grants with applicants (e.g webinars, 1:1 meeting, dropin sessions)
- Collaborates with the Culture and Community team to identify, onboard, and support community advisors for decisionmaking processes
- Manages essential grant administration tasks, such as due diligence, fund matching, budget management, caseload stabilization, and supporting grant recipients throughout their journey
- Develops and implements criteria for reporting on grants, staying informed about sector trends, and suggesting ways to improve grant programs and processes
- Oversees payment processes for both new and existing grants
