Job Summary:


The Dixie Bloor Neighborhood Centre requires an evening Instructor for Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program to teach learners at CLB 4 and 5.

This is a contract position until March 31, 2024 with a strong possibility for extension.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Conducts classes in a respectful, culturally sensitive and engaging manner, foster selfdirected learning
  • Provide clientcentered, taskbased, communicative programming
  • Design motivational lesson plans
  • Assess learners' needs and progress. Provide feedback and assign appropriate Benchmarks when needed.
  • Prepare progress reports at the end of the term
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of learners' attendance
  • Participate in special events (if needed) to enhance learners' participation and cultural experience
  • Participate in LINC and agency events: AGM, UW fundraising, Summer Fest and etc.

Qualifications:


  • TESL Ontario accreditation or completion of a TESL Program
  • B. A. or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of LINC/ESL teaching experience with adults
  • Strong pedagogical skills and creative abilities
  • Previous experience providing online course, knowledge of virtual teaching platforms (ex. Zoom, Google classroom) and technical troubleshooting is an asset.
  • PBLA knowledge or readiness learn
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment. Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.
  • Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills, punctual, reliable, disciplined
  • Criminal Record Check for vulnerable sector must be completed prior to employment.
