Job Overview
The Assessment and Customer divisions are responsible for the creation and defence of the annual assessment roll.

Through the services provided, we reflect the strategic importance of customers and ensure customer-centricity and accountability for the customer process.

As an Appraiser, you will support the assessment function by valuing assigned property types, including auditing and defending values.

You are organized, detail-oriented, and efficient.

You understand the fundamentals of property assessment and appraisal, and are able to communicate effectively with customers, both internal and external to the organization.

You have strong digital literacy, are comfortable working within databases, and care about data integrity and analysis.

You can read maps, understand legislation, and interpret large amounts of data using math and statistics to support your analysis.

You are excited to grow your knowledge of property valuation by taking further courses to become a professional appraiser.


A valid BC Driver's license is required for this role. This critical role may involve travel of up to 1-4 weeks per year, depending on location.

Key Accountabilities

Roll Preparation:


  • Inspects, measures, inventories and determines value and class of assigned property types and records inventory and information according to prescribed standards.
  • Applies appropriate mass appraisal techniques and systems.
  • Applies relevant legislation, bylaws and business rules. Uses and becomes familiar with established procedures and policies and established approaches to value.
  • Regularly identifies building materials for recording and inputting into database.

Audit and Quality Assurance:


  • Conducts routine data audits and basic valuation audits; reviewing and correcting coding or data.
  • Queries, sorts and compiles data for the purposes of analysis and identifies inconsistencies in the data.

Roll Defence:


  • Prepares relevant information and appeal preparation e.g. appraisal reports, equity analysis.
  • Participates in appeal management processes and procedures.
  • Represents BC Assessment, presents evidence and acts as an expert witness in the appeal process.

Customer Service and Other Duties:


  • Represents BC Assessment's interests when interacting with customers, such as property owners while inspecting properties, and with local government staff when gathering information.
  • Exchanges information and answers questions, follows up on routine customer inquiries, participates in project work.
