    Unit Summary

    Malignant Hematology encompasses the inpatient wards B4 and C4 as well as the outpatient areas of ODS - Oncology Day Services and Clinic F. The primary modes of therapy include chemotherapy administration as well as cellular therapy including CART, autologous and allogenic stem cell transplant.

    Position Summary

    The NURSE PRACTITIONER (NP) functions in an expanded role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skills to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage health needs and promote wellness for patients diagnosed with a variety of hematology malignancies. Principal responsibilities include collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient, determining a medical diagnosis and treating complex responses of individuals and families to actual or potential problems. The NP collaborates with the medical and allied health care team to determine the most appropriate clinical care pathway for the patient.

    Schedule Work Hours

    Monday to Friday-37. 5 hours per week

    Qualifications

    1. Completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing or a recognized equivalent graduate program
    2. Current certificate of registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in extended class category
    3. Minimum of 5 years recent clinical nursing experience in Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant
    4. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
    5. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
    6. Demonstrated ability to function independently
    7. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations
    8. Demonstrated clinical research expertise
    9. Knowledge and experience in change theory and adult learning principles
    10. Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
    11. Effective advanced skills and competencies in interpersonal relations, critical thinking and problem solving , and negotiation and conflict resolution
    12. Active membership in professional nursing association(s) (RNAO, CANO)
