In compliance with Board policies and procedures, responsible for YRDSB non-credit programs for LINC and ESL learners to ensure the effective operational and organizational support and implementation of the Canadian Language Benchmarks and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) planning, training and implementation.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide PBLA training, guidance, mentoring and support to instructors, program and learners

To prepare and deliver workshops to instructors related to PBLA implementation and platform use

To facilitate one-on-one and small group, informal discussions among instructors

To share best practices and strategies for classroom management, lesson delivery, planning and assessment

To regularly observe instructors in their classroom settings (online and in-person) to provide critical, action oriented feedback and/or suggestions to support effective PBLA implementation and language delivery

To model instructional strategies or supports as appropriate

To team-teach and carry out demonstration lessons where necessary

To communicate regularly with Program Manager and/or Principal to ensure effective co-ordination of the project, identify trends, provide updates on progress and implementation and discuss any needs or concerns

To submit monthly activity reports to the Program Manager/Principal

To participate in meetings with Lead instructors and/or administration as necessary

To support Lead Instructors working with classroom instructors

To participate in LMS (Learning Management System) training, and prepare and facilitate training of instructors. Keep up to date with LMS updates and communicate these with instructors regularly

Review course activities in the learning management systems, facilitate course delivery, share course resources and best practices

Respond to all queries by instructors in a timely manner

Support supply staff, provide guidance, training and materials

To perform other duties as assigned


LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible to the Principal of Adult and Community Education.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

University degree or college diploma in a related field, or equivalent, as approved by the board.

TESL Ontario Accreditation.

PBLA training completed and evidence of being effectively implemented in their own classroom settings.

Minimum three years in teaching or related experience is required.

Knowledge and understanding of adult education and language learning/teaching practices and trends.

Experience with curriculum development and working with adult learners.

Demonstrated interpersonal and team building skills.

Successful facilitation and presentation experience with strong leadership skills.

A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
