The Vancouver office of Smith + Andersen is currently seeking an Electrical Project Manager. You're all about prioritization.

Does this sound like you? If so, here are some of the more detailed responsibilities you can expect in this position:

  • Prepare, or assist Principal-in-charge with, the development of all system engineering concepts (e.g. design brief) and concept report.
  • Review and manages the design in terms of construction budgets.
  • Perform or arrange reviews of existing installations and interpret/manage the impact on the project.
  • Prepare all calculations and select all equipment.
  • May assign tasks to designers and CAD Technicians where appropriate.
  • Understand Codes and Standards relevant for the project and communicates all requirements to the internal project team, external project team, owner, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Ensure proper coordination of documents with internal and external project team (architect, interior designer, and other disciplines).
  • Review all deliverables for the project including reports, calculations, drawings, or/and specifications to ensure completeness and accuracy at various stages of development and as defined by internal total quality management.
  • Promote and enforce company standards relating to project administration, documentation and processes such as total quality management.
  • Where requested by the Principalincharge or Associate Principal, act as a contract administrator for designated projects to ensure timely completion of all contract administration activities for project.
  • Ensure that shop drawing review process takes place within project timelines.
  • Coordinate with the contract administration team regarding drawing reviews, proper set up of contract administration process and site activities.
  • Prepare all change notices or reviews change notices issued by contract administration team.
  • Ensure tasks are completed accurately and with the assigned hours/fee.
  • Respond to both technical and financial queries related to the project.
  • Keep the Principalincharge or Associate Principal advised of all changes in scope of work and prepares amendments to the contract (e.g. Request of Additional feeRAF) for review and submission to client.
  • Support the process of accounts receivable.
  • Ensure the internal project team coordination processes by discipline are complete.
  • Prepare and actively monitor a schedule of tasks required to complete the project including hours to perform tasks and critical data required for performance.
  • Liaise with external consultants and vendors to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Organize and attend client meetings and deliver presentations to client/owner.

A few more qualifications which will help you with these responsibilities:

  • Five or more years of project engineering experience in the field of electrical building services.
  • A senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Possesses sound communications skills as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
  • Knowledgeable about the provincial building code, electrical code, CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES and NFPA standards.
  • Possess superb problem solving and decisionmaking skills.
  • A LEED Accredited Professional designation, with Experience implementing sustainable design is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, methods and standards.
