The Role

  • The Employer Engagement Officer cultivates relationships and partnerships with businesses, nonprofits and local governments to create work opportunities that make Work Integrated Learning programs (Cooperative Education, Business Internships, applied research, etc.), possible.
  • The position works systematically to implement department plans to maintain a relationsbased opportunity funnel for students and graduates by engaging with the business community to build awareness of Douglas College's programs, student profiles and how these can address the regional market's recruiting objectives.
  • The Employer Engagement Officer reports to the Manager, Business Development and provides operational and strategic support to the Career Centre and its programs.
    Responsibilities

1. Executes business development and employer engagement plans of the Department
- a. Collaborates to develop a long-term strategy for nurturing relationships with organizations to support opportunities for applied and academic research, student employment, co-operative education, internships and other forms of experiential education;
b. Researches and identifies key employers and industry partners for Douglas College;
c. Secures opportunities leading to the hiring of students into full-time work in a career-relevant position or industry project post-graduation;
d. Develops job opportunities for the BI, Co-op and other programs and posts job opportunities as required to the CRM;
e. Coordinates with Foundation and Alumni Relations and academic Faculties to effectively manage outreach to target organizations avoiding overlap and consequent reputational damage to the College;
f. Performs informal recruitment needs assessments with organizations to identify recruitment profiles aligned with academic programs and student skill sets;
g. Implements innovative ideas for providing services to employers that build relationships with strategic employment partners;
h. Represents the College at networking or other business development functions to increase the College's profile with organizations, awareness of Douglas College Career Centre programs, including Business Internship, Co-op, the Career Boost program for PD Students and others;
j. Supports marketing initiatives to recruit

employers, and increase student participation in career services, WIL, Co-op, BI and other programs;
k. Plans, schedules and leads classroom visits in support of college experiential education liaising with faculty across the College;
l. Implements industry-standard processes and procedures that aim to strengthen stakeholder engagement.


2. Supports program development within the Career Centre
- a. Documents feedback from key employers on student performance to identify market challenges, skill gaps and new opportunities;
b. Conducts analysis, prepares reports and provides feedback to inform program development;
c. Monitors student success transitioning to the job market to assess impact of Career Centre activities;
d. Identifies key current market trends and shares this knowledge across the Business Development department to support continuous improvement of the Career Centre and its programs;
e. Collaborates closely with the Co-operative Education and Business Internship teams to leverage opportunities for student groups;
f. Assists with the employer engagement and Experiential Education program evaluation process.


3. Maintains business development standards, processes and procedures
- a. Ensures all relationships are managed with diplomacy and efficiency to support the College's strategic initiative to provide students with increased access to experiential opportunities aligned with academic programs;
b. Evaluates new opportunities to ensure positions offer experiential education significant enough to be included in for-credit internships and co-operative education programs;
d. Sources and provides follow-up data for Career Centre programs reports on student and corporate relations progress;
e. Maintains records of employer outreach initiatives and updates the employer database in the CRM;
f.

Works with external stakeholders and College departments to develop a database of community and College contacts, interests and opportunities; maintains this database, produces reports and works with other College departments to support adoption of the database.
