Position Summary


As an integral member of the Division of Medical Oncology & Hematology (DMOH), the Manager works in collaboration with the Division Head and Senior Clinical Directors to provide leadership and direction for the division.

The Manager provides leadership and direction to staff across 5 key areas:
Medical Education, Quality, Office Administration, Blood and Marrow Transplant, and the Cell Processing Laboratory


The position responsibilities include:

analyzing, strategizing and making recommendations on all financial, human resources, and project/program initiatives in DMOH; maintaining responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the programs within the division; collaborating on the development and establishing long and short term goals, objectives, strategic plans and quality management activities within the division; managing and developing human resources; managing and administering operating budgets; departmental representation on various hospital committees; providing sound and timely information to the management team to facilitate optimal decision making; developing, managing and leading projects that will result in cost savings, efficiency and productivity across the site; developing, managing and implementing quality improvements initiatives to ensure continuous quality improvement throughout the program which are in alignment with site/hospital goals and strategies; performing various corporate management responsibilities which support and advance the program and UHN goals; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.


Duties

  • Ensures that program/project goals and objectives align within the division and with the strategic objectives of the organization
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Manages all aspect of human resources
  • Develops implements and communicates performance measures; conducts regular performance appraisals of direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Manages the unit/department financial resources including coordination and preparation of forecasts/budgets and analysis/reconciliation of variances from approved plan.
  • Develops implements, manages and reviews short and longterm plans which are in alignment with UHN's goals and strategies.
  • Develops and implements daytoday operating policies, systems and procedures to contribute to organizational effectiveness.
  • Represents the department internally on UHN committees, as required, and UHN in the external community at conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Contributes to corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance UHN's mission, values and goals.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Master's degree in a healthcare or business related discipline or a recognized equivalent.
  • Minimum five years appropriate professional experience.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Is client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciates that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem recognition, analyses and resolution skills.
  • Excellent decision making skills with the ability to form/defend independent judgements and to use good judgement in assessing difficult situations.
