RESOURCE CENTRE COORDINATOR, CEDARS CANSUPPORT

Cedars CanSupport is a charitable, hospital based organization that provides free emotional support, educational, and practical resources to enhance the humanization of care and the quality of life of cancer patients and their families throughout the entire cancer experience.

Under the direction of the Manager, Supportive and Palliative Care Programs and Services, and Cedars CanSupport (CCS) of the McGill University Health Center (MUHC), the incumbent is responsible for promoting a welcoming environment and maintaining the visibility, accessibility, and efficient operations of the Cedars Cancer Resource Centre.

The incumbent will strive for excellence in the overall structure and operations of an evidence-informed cancer resource centre responding to the needs of the MUHC oncology population.

This is not a hospital position.

These services are an initiative of the Cedars Cancer Foundation (CCF) in collaboration with the MUHC Cancer Care Mission (CCM).


2. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Promote the Cedars Cancer Resource Centre services and resources to all patients, families and staff; collaborate with MUHC professionals and librarians to develop and promote health information outreach programs;
B. Monitor, triage, and respond to questions and requests for information, resources, and services from patients and families; Refer patients and families to ensure that their needs are addressed appropriately and in a timely fashion;
C. Coordinate the intake, monitoring, distribution of MUHC cancer care resources and services as well as consumer health resources within the Cedars Cancer Resource Centre;
D. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of print and web-based material for educational purposes; maintain an electronic record-keeping system and operational statistics for quality assurance;

3. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient and Family Cedars Cancer Resource Centre

  • Promote awareness and accessibility to Cedars CanSupport programs, activities, as well as other cancer support resources (eg. cancerrelated information, wigs, hats, turbans, books, parking passes, comfort kits, spill kits, etc.) to patients, caregivers, health care providers;
  • Curate and mobilize cancer care resources, consumer health information, and partnerships from internal and external cancer organizations;
  • Lead and supervise the organization, maintenance, and operations of patient education materials and physical book collection / lending library;
  • Provide a reference service and perform computer searches on behalf of patients, caregivers, health care providers, as needed;
  • Develop and maintain an online library catalogue;
  • Train and supervise Cedars CanSupport volunteers assigned to the Resource Centre;
  • Actively collaborate with MUHC professionals in the development and provision of instructional guides/tutorials//handouts to support the cancer patient experience

Administrative Functions

  • Maintain inventory of resources for patients, such as wigs, lending library, parking passes, etc.
  • Maintain and update CCS resource manuals and community resources;
  • Administer and record the disbursements of donations received;
  • Track, record and submit resource centre expenses;
  • Compile, prepare and submit data and performance indicators to help measure the impact of services;
  • Develop and maintain an electronic recordkeeping system for all cancer education, resources, and support services;
  • Maintain a mailing list of CanSupport newsletter subscribers;

Communications and Outreach

  • Actively contribute to the planning and implementation of outreach activities to promote the lending library, Cedars CanSupport resources, programs, and services;
  • Display and promote cancerrelated informational material on intranet, internet and/or throughout the Cedars Cancer Centre;
  • Contribute to the cocreation and distribution of the Cedars CanSupport newsletter and information bulletin;
  • Maintain the structure of the CanSupport website, including drop down menus and shared sidebar links;
  • Manage and keep up to date the Cedars CanSupport web page;
  • Participates in the layout/design of online resources with the Cedars Cancer Foundation and in alignment with MUHC Resource Centres;
  • Promote knowledgebased patient education and virtual psychosocial support services within the MUHC, local and global communities.
