About the Role


The following highlights the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain a variety of broadcast systems, facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair of Over the Air transmitters (OTA) in remote locations.
  • Maintain, repair and trained to operate Microwave remote truck and central receive site.
  • Be able to perform well under stressful conditions.
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of projects assigned.
  • Implement and document all temporary or permanent installations which meet the needs of operations or technical requirements.
  • Participate in equipment purchasing or system design recommendations.
  • Work with third party vendors and suppliers.
  • Create drawings of broadcast systems using Visio.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Office.
  • Provide Business / Broadcast IT / Network systems support.
  • Work closely with News Operations to maintain a consistent and high quality product.
  • Work rotational shifts on weekdays and possible overnight shifts, weekends as necessary.
  • Assist and relieve operators when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required to the above.
About You

Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized postsecondary Broadcast Technologist program, Computer Technology, Engineering or minimum 3 years' experience in the field of Electronics.
  • Passionate about working in the Broadcasting, technical industry.
  • The ability to troubleshoot Broadcast Electronic systems.
  • An understanding of digital video/audio signals and their integration into Broadcast Systems.
  • Working knowledge of Video Compression, Codecs, Graphics and Video Editing software
  • Working knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot Windows networking software, hardware, and workstations.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and hardware with the ability to install and troubleshoot operating systems and software
  • A mechanical aptitude with hand/power tools experience a definite asset.
  • Understanding of Live Television production.
  • Familiarity with Over the Air transmission for television, microwave and satellite signals.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and maintain system flows with technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio and Excel is a required asset.
  • Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail is an important asset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a passion for building and maintaining working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver's license and clear driving record.
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology, workflows and integrating systems.
