The
PRICING SPECIALIST (Ocean) is responsible for identifying suitable carriers and negotiating Freight rates with carriers for: Ocean Imports (mainly in conjunction with overseas offices/agents) as well as Ocean Exports directly with carriers and vendors in Canada.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Maintain all carrier agreements and build, maintain and update all current and future rates/tariffs into one central database (QMS/WebCargo or equivalent) on a daily basis.
  • Recommend suitable alternative rates and trade lane options and offer best solutions.
  • Compile comprehensive, timely and accurate quotations to customers, sales, management, overseas offices or agents.
  • Validate accuracy of quotations, maintain profitability guidelines and ensure costings are up to date.
  • Work with the Transportation & Pricing Manager in responding to all global tenders within the deadlines set forth by the Americas Tender Management Team.
  • Analyze success and failure factors and review better opportunities and options for future requests.
  • Be proactive in resolving customer/overseas office/sales pricing matters.
  • Along with the Pricing & Procurement Manager and the Global Sea Freight team, participate in ensuring the allocation of sufficient carrier space for accounts and prospects.
  • Actively pursue the most competitive base rates with all carriers.
  • Maintain our domestic 'Standard Local Tariffs' and maximize income.
  • Ensure that the following timelines for all quotations are met:
  • Ocean Export (within 2 hours).
  • Ocean Import (same day).
  • LCL Export & Import (within 2 hours).
  • FCL Export & Import (same day).
  • RFQ's & RFI's (before deadline date).
  • Enquiries that require overseas input (next day).
  • Enquiries from overseas offices or agents (same day).
  • Keep records of all quotations and monitor our success ratio per product and trade lane.
  • Provide information to operations/sales in regard to cost and sales rates including carrier selection.
  • Follow up on Customer quotations will be handled by sales but Pricing is responsible to record success/failure and followup with overseas offices/agents.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Skill Factors (education, experience, communication, technical, etc.)

  • Postsecondary degree in relevant program.
  • Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in International Freight Forwarding.
  • Minimum three (3) years CURRENT work in the Canadian Ocean Freight sector.
  • Excellent and current knowledge of the Ocean Freight industry, with a strong knowledge of both FCL and LCL products and fluctuating rate levels, and a strong relationship with the carriers.
  • Excellent written and verbal business communication skills, communicating with multiple points of contact at all levels of an organization.
  • Must present oneself in a confident and professional manner with both internal and external contacts via telephone phone and in person.
  • Superior skills in Excel and high proficiency in Word, and Outlook.

Working Conditions

  • Works standard 35 hours per week; however, job requirements will include additional and/or extended work time as the business dictates.
  • This job is performed in a temperaturecontrolled office environment and the employee will be stationed at a desk with computer/printer and telephone.
  • The duties for this job will primarily be performed using IT tools, thereby requiring prolonged sitting periods in front of a computer screen.
