The purpose of the position is to work as part of a team to provide quality ongoing support for adults with developmental & or physical disabilities in maximizing their potential in a safe, nurturing environment.


Summary:


The Developmental Service Worker (DSW) works under the supervision of the _Program Supervisor_ in Luso's Day Programming, where we support participants' social, emotional, behavioral and/or physical needs, and are responsible for observing and documenting their progress.


The DSW recognizes the importance of providing the proper care and support of participants with varying levels of developmental and/or physical disabilities.

The DSW's actions will promote dignity and support our _Mission _where, _We Nurture and empower individuals living with disabilities to reach their potential.

Roles & Responsibilities:


  • Assess participant's relevant skills strengths, limitations, needs and provides team feedback
  • Provide consistent, supportive interactions and activities to participants
  • Encourages, assists/supports participants to engage in social, recreational activities and or experiences to improve quality of life
  • Assist the planning team in creating, planning and or facilitating program with team
  • Assists participants in personal hygiene, and or feeding while working with fellow team
  • Assists in the person centered/directed plans/goals and/or providing feedback for completion and participant progress
  • Ensures facility cleanliness, and follows all Health & Safety protocols/procedures
  • Abides by the infectious diseases protocols & procedures
  • Communicates with _Program Supervisor_ & _Floor Manager_ participants progress and or concerns for caregiver communication
  • Assists the _Program Supervisor_ in office/program tasks
  • Works as a team player, maintains participant, dignity and respect
  • Assist the PSW team with Personal Care of participants, should the need arise (i.e. changing).

Qualifications:


  • Proof of completion of a Developmental Service Diploma Program from a recognised Community College
  • Demonstrates a commitment to care for individuals with developmental disabilities, physical and/or intellectual disabilities in a supportive role
  • Must have current valid CPR and/or First Aid Training
  • CPI Training (Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention) is considered an asset
  • Current Vulnerable Sector (police screening) Criminal Record Check (valid within last 6 months)
  • Experience working in community mental health field developmental, physical and or intellectual disabled persons) is considered an asset
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently, to problemsolve, deal with behavioural issues as required and cope with stressful situations, while maintaining a calm and nurturing environment
  • Desire and proven ability to work as an effective team player
  • Demonstrates strong written & oral communication skills
  • Ability to carry out behavioural action plans, activities and modifications/accommodations
  • Computer skilled (word, excel, PowerPoint, zoom an asset)
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Accept other assigned duties from floor manager and/or program supervisor as necessary
