ROLE:

In keeping with the mandate of C.A.W.E.S.

the role of the Residential Cook is to provide for the daily nutritional needs of the residents of CAWES and to ensure that CAWES kitchen and eating areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition and in compliance with all health and safety standards and regulations.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Residential Cook is responsible to the Operation Manager and the Executive Director.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Coordinate purchase of groceries and supplies within an approved budget with the Residential Manager
  • Preparation of menus, noon, evening meals and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide;
  • Ensure adequate provisions are available at all times;
  • Maintain adequate lunch supplies for children of school age
  • Provide informal support to residents; orientation to the kitchen and supplies; assist residents with meal preparation if required;
  • Inquire daily to determine if food allergies are present with clients and ensure that there is an alternative meal for that client.
  • Cleaning of kitchen appliances, fridge, freezer, stove, cupboards etc.
  • Ensure proper storage of all dry goods, food staples and household/cleaning supplies;
  • Maintain kitchen in a sanitary manner including: fridges, freezers, stove, cupboards and ALL work areas;
  • Ensure all Food health and safety regulations are adhered to;;
  • Communicate to staff (crisis workers and/or management) the identified and/or perceived needs of residents and relevant resident behaviors;
  • Attend staff meetings and inservices training;
  • Meet varying dietary needs (cultural, vegan, allergies, etc)
  • Other duties required by ED or Operation Manager
  • Assist with all other housekeeping tasks as required in an emergent situation
    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Food Handling Certificate is Essential;
  • Cooking/purchasing experience in service industry is essential;
  • Knowledge of food storage and menu planning is necessary;
  • Knowledge of Canada Food Guide is necessary;
  • Ability to work within a defined budget;
  • Good organizational skills with ability to establish, maintain and manage an appropriate routine;
  • Nonjudgmental and empathic;
  • Knowledge of family violence;
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team;
  • Ability to remain calm in a crisis situation;
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision;
  • Maintaining confidentiality an
    absolute requirement;
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle;
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates.

Dress Code:
- required to maintain satisfactory hygiene
- clothing/uniform must be up to standards.

Criminal record check and Child welfare information system check. Proof of vaccination against Covid-19 required.


Job Types:
Full-time, Temporary


Salary:
$18.00-$20.00 per hour

Experience:

- cooking: 1 year (preferred)


Licence/Certification:

  • Food Handling certificate or equivalent (required)
