QUALIFICATIONS:

University degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Life Sciences, Public Health or related discipline

Working towards Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation

Minimum (4) years of experience in OHS at a management level, preferably in a unionized environment

Demonstrated experience in developing Infection Prevention and Control Programs

Excellent understanding of biological, chemical, physical, ergonomic and workplace violence hazards

Thorough knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, codes and industry standards

Excellent problem solving, time management, and organizational skills

ROH or CIH designation would be an asset

A valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle is required for travel to schools and other Board-related sites (eligibility for mileage reimbursement)


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Reporting to and under the direction of the Senior Manager, Occupational Health & Safety, the primary function of this position is to develop and implement the Board's Health & Safety Initiatives and to eliminate health hazards by designing a safe work system in accordance with established standards and legislation/ regulations.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop, implement and coordinate the Board's Infection Prevention and Control Program to help reduce the transmission of communicable diseases in schools and other TCDSB workplaces

Develop, implement and coordinate the Board's Personal Protective Equipment Program

Work towards compliance with the voluntary CSA Z1000 Standard, Occupational Health and Safety

Design, develop and implement an OHS Training Records System

Attend all Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings during the school year to ensure the Committee functions in accordance with the rules and procedures in the OHSA, Terms of Reference and applicable collective agreement

Liaise with the JHSC chairs regarding Occupational Health and Safety policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines; consult with the required union partners and communicate Occupational Health and Safety developments to the system

Assist the Senior Manager in the development, implementation, revision and communication of all aspects of the TCDSB Occupational Health & Safety Program (policies, standard operating procedures and training)

Conduct workplace violence and harassment investigations involving Board employees

Champion Ontario's Student Injury Prevention Initiative by coordinating third party inspections of wood shops, auto shops, chemistry labs and theaters

Act as a point of contact for school administrators and facilities management staff on OHS issues that arise in their respective school

Perform any other duties as assigned or required in support of the Occupational Health & Safety Department


NOTE:
This position requires travelling to TCDSB sites on regular basis. The incumbent must have own vehicle available to use and a valid Ontario driver's license (eligibility for mileage reimbursement). Requires wearing of appropriate and current safety equipment (safety shoes, hard hat) for TCDSB construction.
